The St. Louis Blues Announce Mike Yeo Will Take Over As Head Coach In The 2017-18 Season

(June 13, 2016) - St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the Blues have named Mike Yeo Associate Coach. In addition, Armstrong announced that Yeo will be named Head Coach to begin the 2017-18 season and his contract will run through the 2019-20 season. Armstrong also announced that Rick Wilson has been named an Assistant Coach, while Assistant Coach Ray Bennett, Goaltending Coach Jim Corsi and Video CoachSean Ferrell will return to the coaching staff.

Yeo, 42, spent the majority of the past five seasons as the Head Coach of the Minnesota Wild. During his tenure, the North Bay, Ontario, native led the Wild to a 173-132-44 regular season record, including a 46-28-8 mark in 2014-15, which was the second best record in Wild franchise history. Yeo also guided the Wild to three postseason berths, including back-to-back trips to the second round in 2014 and 2015. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Yeo spent one season as the Head Coach of the American Hockey League's (AHL) Houston Aeros, where he led the club to the 2011 Calder Cup Final. He also spent 10 seasons in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, including four seasons as an Assistant Coach with Pittsburgh, where he captured the 2009 Stanley Cup. Yeo's first six seasons in the organization were spent as an assistant with the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Wilson, 65, has spent the past five seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Minnesota Wild. The former Blues defenseman (1974-76) has been behind an NHL bench in various roles for the past 27 seasons, including stints as an Assistant Coach with the New York Islanders (1988-89), Los Angeles Kings (1989-92), Minnesota North Stars (1992-93) and Dallas Stars (1993-2002) - where he captured the 1999 Stanley Cup as a part of Ken Hitchcock's staff. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, native also served a brief term as Dallas' Head Coach in 2001-02 and continued on as the club's Associate Coach from 2002-09, before spending one season as Tampa Bay's Associate Coach in 2009-10. During his playing career, Wilson dressed in 239 NHL regular season games, including time with Montreal, St. Louis and Detroit.

Bennett will return for his 10th season as an Assistant Coach. Prior to his tenure with the Blues, the Innisfail, Alberta, native spent seven seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Los Angeles Kings.

Corsi will return for his third season as Goaltending Coach. Prior to his tenure with the Blues, the Montreal, Quebec, native spent 16 seasons as the Goaltending Coach with the Buffalo Sabres.

Ferrell will return for his third season as Video Coach. A native St. Louisan, Ferrell has over 15 years of coaching and player development experience, working with players at both the amateur and professional levels.
