The Problems With The Pittsburgh Penguins

That romp through Canada feels like ancient history these days for the Penguins.

As if those four consecutive wins occurred, oh, somewhere around the Middle Ages.

The Penguins are in a funk right now. A bad one, too, after they lost, 5-1, to the New Jersey Devils Monday night at PPG Paints Arena.

Their losing streak stands at four, matching their longest under coach Mike Sullivan. They’ve allowed 18 goals in those games. They’re getting clobbered on home ice with a record of just 2-4-1, losing four in a row here for the first time under Sullivan. Their goalie is battling bouts of inconsistency. They still are searching for the right combinations on defense, and things are even more scattershot when it comes to the forwards.
