from Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,
Penguins centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are two of the most celebrated, accomplished and well-compensated hockey players on the planet.
When either slips into an extended goal-scoring slump, people notice.
Especially if they do it at the same time.
And during the Stanley Cup playoffs....
But while those two are the most prominent Penguins forwards who have had trouble scoring lately, they hardly are the only ones.
The offensive depth and balance that contributed so much to the Penguins’ success in the stretch drive and early part of these playoffs — no fewer than 10 forwards scored at least one goal in Round 1 against the New York Rangers — has, to some extent, disappeared up in recent weeks.
