from Jack Todd at the Montreal Canandiens,
Alexander Radulov signed on the dotted line — but in Dallas, not Montreal. Begging the question: has he been to Texas?
Alex Galchenyuk signed a three-year, $14.7 million contract with the good guys – and it’s a sign of the times that a 23-year-old star about to receive almost $15 million elicits a collective shrug. We’ve come a long way since the days when Rocket Richard sold heating oil door-to-door during the off-season to help make ends meet.
In fact, the overall reaction to the moves the Canadiens have made – including the deal that sent Mikhail Sergachev to Tampa for Jonathan Drouin, the signings of Karl Alzner and Ales Hemsky and inking Carey Price to an eight-year deal – was a collective meh. No offensive help at the centre position, the loss of Radulov and Sergachev’s move to Tampa were enough to dampen any enthusiasm for the arrival of the newbies. The fans looked, saw another edition of the CH with the potential to make the playoffs and not much more, and shrugged.
At least there remains the possibility Markov will return.
