from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- Normally, an upper echelon NHL goalie starts three out of every four games. In the calendar year, Marc-Andre Fleury started 101 games for the Vegas Golden Knights. He won 63 of them, had 13 shutouts, lost just 30 in regulation time playing for an expansion team. Why he didn’t get more play – or any play, really – for athlete of the year is astounding.
- If NHL standings remain the same, it’s possible the Leafs and Lightning will meet in the second round of the playoffs and the Jets and Predators will do that in the West. I don’t dislike the current playoff format but I do dislike it when the divisions are as separate in talent as they seem to be currently.
- The worst goal differential teams in the NHL: Chicago, Ottawa and the Los Angeles Kings.
