The Fading Ottawa Senators

11/30/2014 at 5:33pm EST

from Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen,

They’re now fifth in the chase for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, allowing Toronto, Florida and Washington to all leapfrog past them in the past couple of weeks.

For all the Senators fans laughing when Nashville spanked Toronto 9-2 on Nov. 18, the Maple Leafs have since strung together a 4-0 record.

The Senators, meanwhile, are licking their wounds following their lost weekend here, which included a 4-1 defeat to Tampa Bay Saturday and a 3-2 loss to Florida Friday.

And what’s staring them in the face? An away-and-home series against the New York Islanders, who have just completed an 11-3-0 November to remember. That will be followed by a trip to face Metro Division-leading Pittsburgh Saturday and a home game against Pacific Division leading Vancouver Sunday.
