from Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Journal,
For most of the evening, as they stuck to the streaking Edmonton Oilers like a bad smell, the Red Wings seemed to be rewriting the lyrics to the old KISS tune — ‘You gotta lose your ninth in Detroit, Rock City.’
With the Oilers looking to accomplish something that even the great dynasty teams of the ’80s couldn’t — win nine straight — the Red Wings were having none of it.
The Wings kept it scoreless through the first period. They kept it scoreless through the second period. They went up 1-0 in the third. They scored late to steal the victory out of Edmonton’s mouth and force overtime.
But, once again, for the ninth-straight time, the Oilers found a way to get it done.
This time it was Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman scoring third-period goals and Darnell Nurse winning it in overtime as the Oilers tied a franchise-record winning streak with a 3-2 overtime decision Thursday.
