The season-long assault and battery of the Blue Jackets continued last night in United Center, where the Chicago Blackhawks waited out the winless bottom-dwellers of the Eastern Conference and extended the Jackets’ season-opening losing streak to six games.
Former Blue Jacket Artem Anisimov and Teuvo Teravainen scored 65 seconds apart during a second-period flurry, Marian Hossa made good on a 5-on-3 power play and the defending Stanley Cup champions beat the Jackets 4-1 in front of 21,563.
“This is getting old,” Blue Jackets left wing Scott Hartnell said. “This is getting frustrating. It’s embarrassing. A lot of people picked us to be there at the end, to make the playoffs, and we’re doing a pretty good job of ruining that right away.”
By nature, the 0-6 start has left the coach Todd Richards walking a fine line and made an early-season roster shakeup a very real possibility.
Richards said afterward that he had received no personal reassurances from management regarding his status.
Before the game, Blue Jackets general manager declined to “speculate” on the future of any player or coach within the organization and reiterated that he has a good working relationship with Richards, a coach he admires and respects.
“That hasn’t changed,” Kekalainen said.
