Tampa Bay Lightning Have Championship Window, Look For Back-to-Back NHL Final Appearances

08/21/2015 at 7:35am EDT

By Joe Sudberg,

Although the final result was disappointing -- a 4-2 NHL Stanley Cup Finals loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, to be specific -- everything came together for the Tampa Bay Lightning, as their mix of veterans and talented youth blended into a team that came within two games of hoisting the trophy. At the very least, they did make it to the top of the competitive Eastern Conference.

The Lightning went from one household name, Steven Stamkos, to about three including studs Tyler Johnson, Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palat, in addition to their talented emerging goaltender Ben Bishop, who showed up time and time again in the postseason.

Tampa Bay has some key players entering the final year of their contracts, including Stamkos, and has contracts ending for players like Johnson and Palat in two seasons. This may be the Lightning’s championship window, so it’s as good a time as ever to follow them throughout an entire season.

With the NHL schedule being released recently, below are some of the most expensive Lightning tickets on the secondary market according to TiqIQ.com, and some key dates to circle. There are plenty of opportunities to create destination hockey trips and Hipmunk.com can be the main travel resource. Hotels on Hipmunk are easy to book and are located near major stadiums and airports, while cheap airline tickets can be booked in a few clicks through most major airline carriers.

Onto the games:

11/3/2015 | Detroit Red Wings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning | Joe Louis Arena | Average Price: $715.60 | Get-in Price: $18

10/13/2015 | Detroit Red Wings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning | Joe Louis Arena | Average Price: $691.92 | Get-in Price: $16

4/9/2016 | Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lightning | Centre Bell | Average Price: $444.78 | Get-in Price: $144

4/2/2016 | Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New Jersey Devils | Amalie Arena | Average Price: $196.34 | Get-in Price: $54

The most expensive Lightning games on the secondary market are against the Detroit Red Wings, with two dates in October and November of this year. Don’t let the average ticket price of $715.60 and $691.91 scare you away from attending the game, as the get-in price is more of a barometer when it is closer to the date of the game. After the games with the Red Wings, the Canadiens are next on the list with an average ticket price of $444.78 and a get-in price of $144.

For games at Amalie Arena, home ice of the Stanley Cup Finals runner-ups, the Lightning’s most expensive game is against the New Jersey Devils late in the season in April. At that point in the year, there could be playoff implications, as the Lightning seek to successfully defend their Eastern Conference crown, while shooting for another shot at Lord Stanley’s Cup.
