T.J. Oshie Traded To The Washington Capitals

ARLINGTON, VA. – The Washington Capitals have acquired right wing T.J. Oshie from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for right wing Troy Brouwer, goaltender Pheonix Copley and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

“T.J. is an outstanding skater with a tremendous skill set,” said MacLellan. “He is a powerful player and has consistent track record of production throughout his career in the NHL. We feel that he complements our core group nicely and can help us get to the next level in achieving our ultimate goal. We also want to thank Troy for his contributions to our organization on and off the ice and wish him well in St. Louis.”

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has acquired forward Troy Brouwer, goaltender Phoenix Copley and a 2016 third-round pick from Washington in exchange for forward T.J. Oshie.

Brouwer, 29, tied a career high with 43 points, including a career-best 22 assists, in 82 regular season games with Washington last season. He also added three assists in 14 postseason appearances.

Overall, Brouwer is a veteran of nine National Hockey League (NHL) seasons, including five with Chicago (2006-2011) and four with Washington (2011-2015), where he served as an assistant captain from 2011 to 2014. The 6'2, 214-pound forward has accumulated 255 points (132 goals, 123 assists) and 395 penalty minutes in 531 career regular season games as well as 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) and 59 penalty minutes in 78 career playoff appearances. Brouwer is also a Stanley Cup champion, earning the title with Chicago in 2010.

Copley, 23, dressed in 26 regular season games with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Hershey Bears last season, posting a 17-4-3 record to go along with a 2.17 goals against average, a .925 save percentage and three shutouts. The 6'3, 174-pound goaltender also made five postseason appearances, logging a 1.83 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. Prior to his professional career, the North Pole, Alaska, native made a short stint with the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) South Carolina Stingrays after a two-year collegiate career at Michigan Tech.

Oshie, 28, has spent his entire seven year career with the Blues after the club drafted him in the first round (24th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Overall, the 5'11, 189-pound forward has accumulated 310 points (110 goals, 200 assists) and 239 penalty minutes in 443 career regular season games and nine points (five goals, four assists) and 12 penalty minutes in 30 career postseason contests.
