When is the sample size big enough to say ‘Whoa. Enough already’?

With the Edmonton Oilers, it appears to be after the 10th game.

You wouldn’t say that head coach Todd McLellan decided hitting the 10-game mark at 3-6-1 was time to panic with last year’s 103-point team predicted and projected by betting odds and experts to reach the Stanley Cup final.

The panic button is located in the office of Peter Chiarelli, and the general manager has yet to push it.

But McLellan, as of now, is clearly pushing many of the buttons he has to push in his head coach’s office.

He’s doing it with significant line and defensive-pairing changes, and dramatic revisions to the personnel and structure of his pathetic power play that sits tied for 30th in the league at 4-for-33.
