from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- Brad Boyes is a solid, middle of the road NHL player. The fact he couldn’t get anything but a training camp invite is more about a changing market and teams with cap trouble than it is about his talents. He should help the Leafs.
- Steven Stamkos has not signed a contract for the 2016 season in Tampa. The bet here is this will get done before next July, expensive as it’s going to be for the Lightning.
- The once-ever-so-stable Mike Ilitch teams in Detroit have seen the general manager and manager fired with the Tigers and the hockey coach end up in Toronto.
- Hanging from the rafters at the Air Canada Centre, the honoured numbers of Maple Leafs greats can be found. And now, outside the ACC, there is the growing number of statues called Legends Row.
It is all nice and charming and historical — with one problem that doesn’t seem to change.
The best Leaf of my lifetime has not been honoured, in the building or outside of it. The relationship between Dave Keon and the Leafs has been prickly for so long that the team seems to go on primarily without acknowledging his presence. That may be what Keon wants. But it can’t be what those old enough to remember the completeness of Keon would want....
more on the Keon topic plus a few more hockey notes...
