You could argue that the Blues overspent in free agency to regain winger David Perron (four years, $16 million and land center Tyler Bozak (three years, $15 million).
But getting winger Patrick Maroon for one year at $1.7 million as NHL.com's Lou Korac reports is possible . . . well, that would be a steal. Apparently the St. Louisan is prepared to give the Blues a hometown discount.
The Blues will be up against the salary cap once it settles its next contract with defenseman Joel Edmundson, so both general manager Doug Armstrong and Maroon had to bend some to make this addition work.
