from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
This is the story the Vancouver Canucks have tried to sell for the last three seasons.
We are a team in transition, but we’re not in a full rebuild. With our veterans and our goaltending, we can stay in the playoff hunt while we integrate younger players into the lineup. As a result, the development of those players will be accelerated as they learn from the veterans in a competitive environment.
Winning and developing, in short, are not mutually exclusive. We can do both and the organization will be better for it.
This is a fine story, although we’re still not sure if it’s directed at the fan base or ownership. The problem, however, is the Canucks sat 26th in the 30-team NHL before Saturday night’s games after finishing 28th last season and those results don’t exactly support the chosen narrative.
So where do they go from here?
