from Gary Lawless of TSN,
Does the National Hockey League want to be in Las Vegas if the National Football League is heading there? Being the first and only major professional sports franchise based in Las Vegas is a lot different than being the second outfit behind the $13-billion behemoth known as the NFL.
Word out of Las Vegas is the Bill Foley expansion group is getting more than a little anxious while waiting to find out from the NHL if they are getting a team.
The clock is ticking and groups in both Las Vegas and Quebec City still have no indication from the NHL about its decision on the subject of expansion.
And while the NHL’s executive committee continues to mull adding a team or teams, the NFL has begun to kick the tires on Las Vegas....
The executive committee, according to an NHL source, has yet to convene and reach a conclusion on expansion.
Maybe it’s all about timing and the NHL wanting to make a splash at its awards banquet in Vegas after the Stanley Cup.
Or maybe the NHL wants to play wait and see just a little longer, possibly delaying a decision by another year.
There has been talk that a delay of that nature would make Foley walk away from the process, but that can’t be a determining factor in the NHL’s ultimate decision.
more plus other hockey topics....
