from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,
It is one thing for a division champion to get home-ice advantage if playing against a team that had more points but finished lower in the standings in its division. We get that winning a division should account for some reward beyond a playoff berth itself.
But why should a second-place team like the Lightning get home-ice advantage in the second round against a crossover fourth-place team like the Islanders, who finished three points ahead of Tampa Bay (100-97) during the season?
Just as there is no good reason for abandoning the second-round re-seed, there is no good reason for this, either.
