from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- In the 2007 NHL draft, the Montreal Canadiens wound up with Ryan McDonagh, Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban with their first three picks. In the 10 drafts that have followed, the Canadiens did not come up with a single player the equal of the three from 2007. It’s no mystery why this team is so average: The talent simply isn’t good enough.
- How does analytics boy GM John Chayka explain trading the seventh pick overall in the draft and a player for Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta. The Arizona Coyotes have one win in 14 games. The genius tag is already wearing thin as we speak.
- If he’s freed from Colorado, what can Duchene be? A franchise changing player? Maybe not? A depth player? Certainly. A scorer? That we don’t know. He has three goals this season after 18 last season and a career high 30 the year before that. He’s still only 26, which is why there is such intrigue about his availability. What there isn’t any kind of consensus as to what kind of contributor he can be to a winning team?
