Saturday Night Hockey Notes

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- I wonder about NHL scouting when Daniel Winnik got passed over in free agency and signed cheap with the Maple Leafs. This guy could help any team in hockey.

- I love Pavel Datsyuk’s game and how can you not? But I don’t love him being called the Magic Man. That’s Kent Nilsson’s nickname.

- I’m so thankful for analytics in hockey, because otherwise I wouldn’t know that it’s not in the Leafs best interest to give up 42 shots a night and that winning cannot be sustained that way long-term.

- The formerly hot Calgary Flames have lost four games in a row: In each loss they have outshot the opposition. The totals: 140-100.
