- ... McDavid is the best player in hockey to watch and quite possibly the best player in the game. He won’t be in the playoffs this year, which means he will have missed three of his first four seasons. He probably won’t be in the playoffs next year as a new GM and probably a new coach will take time to get their plans in place with the Oilers.

There is huge frustration and disappointment from what McDavid expected the Oilers to be and how it has turned out to date. McDavid leads the NHL in points per game since he joined the league in 2015.

My bet — it’s not a situation he can or will happily live with a whole lot longer....

- Give Islanders fans credit for their passion and their energy. They started booing John Tavares in the parking lot Thursday night and didn’t stop until the game was over … And this apparent business of Leafs fans giving standing ovations for Tavares — ah, let’s make him feel good — this #TavaresDayTO thing borders on the embarrassing, doesn’t it? Tavares doesn’t need any further acknowledgement. He understands the business and this Mayor-driven attention is an overt fan’s version of a participation trophy and nothing more than that.
