Saturday Night Hockey Notes Of Interest

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- If you’re the Los Angeles Kings, and you’re slow and you’re lacking offence and youth and you desperately need change, aren’t you camping out and trying to work a deal for Nylander? And maybe Gardiner? Crazy as it sounds, and I’ve never been one of these talk-radio trade proposal guys, if I’m Kyle Dubas, I’m going to inquire about getting Drew Doughty to waive his no-trade clause and see if you get him in some kind of sign and trade for Nylander and Gardiner … I know it won’t happen at least I assume it won’t but that’s the kind of deal that would actually help both teams. The Kings would get all kinds of speed and talent from the Leafs. Toronto would get that No. 1 defenceman the world has been screaming for since Borje Salming was young about a million years ago.

- Both the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers have three goaltenders now. How long before Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard are placed on waivers again? And can the Florida Panthers afford to pass on either of them.

- A trend worth appreciating in the NHL: Coaches who are playing their top three forwards on the same line. It’s working in Colorado and Boston, where five of the NHL’s top six scorers come from two lines.
