- The list of candidates for the Oilers job is several miles long: Two other names who’ve popped up: Tampa assistant GM Pat Verbeek and Detroit’s assistant GM Ryan Martin, who has run their highly-successful Grand Rapids operation for years. Steve Yzerman tried to hire him in Tampa when he got the Lightning GM job but Martin stayed with Wings.
