Former Eagle-Tribune executive sports editor and hockey writer Russ Conway has passed away.
Conway, 70, was renowned in many circles for his coverage of professional hockey and auto racing. He guided The Eagle-Tribune sports section for three decades.
His death was confirmed by his longtime colleague, friend and attorney, Peter Caruso.
Among his many honors, Conway was awarded the prestigious Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for journalists in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.
He not only was noted for his coverage of the sport for his entire career, starting with the Boston Bruins in 1967, he was especially praised for his work to expose corruption in pro hockey at the highest levels.
