from Jack Todd at the Montreal Gazette,
Not terribly wrong, you understand. Not “OMG-what-were-they-thinking-they’re-completely-nuts” bad.
You have to respect the players’ choice, but they got it just a little bit wrong. Like when you could have bought Apple stock and you went for Bell instead.
Max Pacioretty will make a fine captain. He won’t embarrass the organization. He’ll play hard, as he always does.
But he won’t be P.K. Subban. As an individual and as a player, on and off the ice, Subban is larger than life. Where Pacioretty is a life-size player, Pernell Karl is the giant blow-up version. If one Alex Ovechkin weren’t still playing, Subban might be the most electric player in the National Hockey League.
Subban also ruffles feathers. Perhaps in his own locker room, certain with the league Neanderthals who occasionally stray near a microphone — people like Don Cherry, Doug Gilmour and P.J. Stock.
Not everyone loves P.K., but in his relatively short time with the organization he has gone from being the most reviled player wearing the CH to one of the most popular.
