from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
Kyle Dubas was smiling like he had won the Stanley Cup.
But it should have been Mitch Marner with the Cheshire Cat-like grin.
He was the winner on this Saturday afternoon. The winner by knockout or unanimous decision. You take your pick.
The deal is done and Marner will be paid $65+ million over the next six years — which makes sense if he was a better player than Nikita Kucherov in Tampa or Brad Marchand in Boston.
Which he may be one day but just hasn’t been yet.
Kucherov is the NHL’s most valuable player and leading scorer. He’ll earn $1 million a year less than Marner with the Lightning.
