from Dave Vest of the Coyotes' website,

The Coyotes jumped to a 3-0 lead, but lost a preseason game to the San Jose Sharks, 5-4 in a shootout, on Saturday night at Gila River Arena.

Arizona also lost star defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a lower-body injury early in the overtime period. Ekman-Larsson and Sharks forward Mikkel Boedker, who are good friends, got tangled while skating and Ekman-Larsson crumbled to the ice. He slowly got up and skated gingerly to Arizona's dressing room with help from teammate Alex Goligioski and a member of the training staff.

Ekman-Larsson's injury will be further evaluated on Sunday.

"It's too early (to know)," Head Coach Rick Tocchet said when asked the severity of Ekman-Larsson's injury. "It's a guessing thing until they see him tomorrow."

Coach Rick Tocchet said it’s too early to tell how serious the issue is.

“I’ve seen sometimes they’re bad, and sometimes a guy comes in, ‘Hey, it feels great,’ ” Tocchet said. “Who knows? It’s a guessing game till they see him tomorrow.”

Ekman-Larsson was injured after getting tied up with San Jose winger Mikkel Boedker and falling to the ice awkwardly near the boards. He struggled to get up and had to be helped off the ice by a medical trainer and defenseman Alex Goligoski, as Ekman-Larsson was moving gingerly.

“I thought maybe it could have been a penalty there,” forward Nick Cousins said. “At the same time, I hope he’s doing all right. Obviously, he’s our best player and we need him for the regular season. I don’t know how he’s doing, but hopefully all the best.”
