from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
Random thoughts as the NHLdraft approaches this weekend:
- *Why didn’t the Flyers wait until draft day Friday at their Wells Fargo Center to move Scott Hartnell as Minnesota did to create a splash with their faithful when they hosted the draft and dealt Brent Burns to San Jose? Maybe because they risked 14,000 boos from the home crowd....
- *Did Eric Lindros spit in the Hall of Fame voters cornflakes? Nothing against the players who got in this year, all very worthy–Dominik Hasek, Mike Modano, Peter Forsberg and Rob Blake–but Forsberg is now a first ballot HHOF guy with 885 points in an injury-troubled career (708 games) and Lindros had 865 in a fairly comparable 760 games before concussions KO’d him....
- *It’s pretty clear if St. Louis wants Jason Spezza they’re giving up centre/winger Patrik Berglund, whose contract is up and he’s looking for a raise off his $3.25 million. Berglund would be half Spezza’s salary for the Senators, but Ottawa’s looking for first-rounder too and the Blues are picking 21st, not the greatest in a lukewarm draft crop after the top 10 to 12 selections. Can Ottawa actually get the haul they want, a prospect too?...
