LAINE POWERS JETS WITH SECOND HAT TRICK OF SEASON
Playing in just his 14th NHL game, 18-year-old rookie Patrik Laine (3-1—4) scored his second career hat trick (also Oct. 19 vs. TOR) and posted a career-high four points as the Jets scored a season-high eight goals en route to victory.

* Laine has collected 11-4—15 this season to pace the League in goals – two more than the next-closest players (Mark Scheifele and David Pastrnak: 9). He is the first player to record at least 11 goals in his first 14 career games since 1992-93, when three players – including Teemu Selanne – achieved the feat.

* Elias notes that Laine became just the fourth player in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to post multiple hat tricks within his first 14 career games. The others: Bernie Federko (1976-77), Bernie Nichols (1981-82) and Bob Gaudreau (1992-93).

* Laine also became the fourth player in NHL history to score multiple hat tricks before celebrating his 19th birthday, joining Toronto’s Jack Hamilton (1943-44), Winnipeg’s Dale Hawerchuk (1981-82) and Vancouver’s Trevor Linden (1988-89).

LEAGUE-LEADING CANADIENS IMPROVE TO 8-0-0 AT HOME
Carey Price made 41 saves and Paul Byron (1-1—2) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:02 remaining in regulation to help the Canadiens improve to 11-1-1 this season, including a perfect 8-0-0 clip at Bell Centre. Elias notes that the Canadiens have started a season with wins in each of their first eight home games for just the second time in franchise history (also 1953-54: 9-0-0).

SHEARY LEADS PENGUINS IN FIRST MCDAVID-CROSBY MATCHUP
Oilers captain Connor McDavid registered three assists in his first matchup against SidneyCrosby, but Penguins forward Conor Sheary scored twice – including the game-winning goal with 1:42 remaining in regulation – to lift Pittsburgh to victory.

* The Penguins stretched their overall point streak to seven games (6-0-1) and improved to 6-0-1 on home ice this season.

* Pittsburgh also pushed its point streak against the Oilers to 12 games dating to Dec. 5, 2007 (9-0-3).

KINGS, SHARKS HIT ROAD WITH SHUTOUT WINS
Los Angeles’ Peter Budaj (19 saves) and San Jose’s Martin Jones (24 saves) posted shutouts to help their clubs begin lengthy road trips with victories:

* Budaj posted shutouts in consecutive appearances (also Nov. 5 vs. CGY) for the first time in his NHL career to lead the Kings to their third straight win. Los Angeles erupted for a season-high seven goals en route to their largest margin of victory in a shutout since Feb. 3, 2007 at FLA (7-0 W).

* Jones posted his 14th career shutout (and first this season) to help the Sharks snap a three-game slide (0-3-0). San Jose has won six consecutive visits to Washington dating to Feb. 8, 2011 (WSH: 0-4-2).

SEVERAL SKATERS EXTEND PERSONAL STREAKS
A number of players continued their hot hand of late:

* Jets forward Mark Scheifele (2-2—4) recorded his third straight multi-point performance (4-5—9) to move into sole possession of the League lead with 9-9—18 this season (14 GP).

* Rangers teammates Kevin Hayes (4-6—10) and Brady Skjei (0-7—7) each collected an assist to stretch their career-high point streaks to six games.

* Bruins forward David Pastrnak scored to extend his career-high goal streak to five games (5-1—6). Teammate Brad Marchand (0-1—1) pushed his point streak to five games (2-3—5).

* Rangers rookie Pavel Buchnevich (1-2—3) recorded the first three-point game of his NHL career and has scored in three straight contests (3-2—5).
