CANADIENS WIN EIGHTH STRAIGHT, EXTEND POINT STREAK TO 10 GAMES
Carey Price stopped all 42 shots he faced to help Montreal win its eighth straight game and push its season-long point streak to 10 games (9-0-1).

* Via Elias, Montreal has earned at least one point in each of its first 10 games of a season for the fourth time in franchise history (also 1943-44: 11-0-3; 1972-73: 9-0-4; and 1981-82: 6-0-4).

* Montreal became the second team in NHL history to win at least nine of its first 10 games in consecutive seasons, joining the Ottawa Senators (1925-26: 9-1-0 and 1926-27: 9-0-1). In 2015-16, the Canadiens had their season-opening nine-game win streak end at the hands of the Canucks (5-1 L).

* Price, who improved to 6-0-0 in 2016-17 (.964 SV%, 1.17 GAA, 1 SO), earned his 37th career shutout. Wednesday marked the fourth time that he has posted a shutout when making at least 40 saves (regular season and playoffs).

Matt Murray made 32 saves in his first NHL appearance of the season and Kris Letang (1-1—2) scored his first goal of 2016-17 to propel the Penguins to their fourth straight victory.

* Murray, who broke his hand during the World Cup of Hockey, picked up his first victory since the Penguins clinched the Stanley Cup in Game 6 on June 12. Letang, who scored the winning goal in the Cup-clinching game, found the net in his return from a five-game absence.

* Forward Matt Cullen scored the game-winning goal on his 40th birthday after getting surprised with a pie in the face during morning skate.

LOOSE PUCKS
The Flyers tied the game with 64 seconds left in regulation to set the stage for Jakub Voracek’s overtime goal. Philadelphia, who trailed 2-0 and 3-2, has overcome a multi-goal deficit in three of their five victories this season . . . Claude Giroux assisted on Voracek’s goal to extend his assist/point streak to a career-high 10 games (2-11—13) . . . Flyers forward Roman Lyubimov (8 GP) scored his first NHL goal . . . The Senators acquired goaltender Mike Condon from the Penguins in exchange for a 2017 fifth-round selection . . . ICYMI: Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot stopped by the NHL office in New York for a Facebook Live chat.
