CLUBS CONTINUE RECORD-SETTING STARTS IN 2015-16
Three teams – the Canadiens, Capitals and Predators – continued their record-setting starts to the season:

* The Canadiens scored three unanswered goals to snap a 1-1 tie in the third period and improve to 12-2-1 overall (25 points), including a 6-0-1 record (13 points) at Bell Centre. Per Elias, the Canadiens have won 12 of their first 15 games of a season for the first time in the franchise’s 98-year NHL history. They also have earned at least one point in each of their first seven home games of a season for the first time since 1994-95 (5-0-2). Mike Condon turned aside 17 shots to improve to 5-0-1 in his first six NHL appearances (1.50 GAA, .941 SV%).

* Braden Holtby made 28 saves, including 13 in the second period, to backstop the Capitals to a 9-3-0 record (18 points), matching the franchise’s best 12-game start to a season in its 41-year NHL history (also 1991-92: 9-3-0 and 2011-12: 9-3-0). Holtby, who shut out the Bruins three times last season, extended his – and the team’s – shutout streak against the club to 199:30 before allowing a first-period goal. Holtby ultimately improved to 8-2-0 in 10 career appearances vs. BOS (1.52 GAA, .954 SV%, 3 SO).

* Cody Hodgson broke a 2-2 tie with 5:21 remaining in regulation to lift the Predators to an 8-2-2 record (18 points); their 18 points equal a franchise high through the opening 12 games of a season, also achieved in 2005-06 (8-2-2). Hodgson, who signed with the Predators during the offseason, posted his first goal with the club (12 GP) and also registered his first game-winning goal since Jan. 31, 2013 at BOS (w/ BUF).

NEW FACES POWER TEAMS TO VICTORIES
A pair of new faces led their clubs to Thursday wins:

* Nicklas Grossmann scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to power the Coyotes to their third victory in their past five outings. Grossmann, who was acquired in an offseason trade, notched his first goals in a Coyotes uniform (12 GP) as well as his first career multi-goal game (543 GP). He has seven goals over the past two seasons (80 GP) after totaling five in his first 463 NHL appearances.

* Gregory Campbell recorded what proved to be the game-winning goal, his first tally in a Columbus uniform (14 GP), to lift the Blue Jackets to their fourth victory in their last six contests following a 0-8-0 start to the season. Campbell, who signed with the club during the offseason, picked up his ninth career game-winning goal in 735 NHL appearances.

AROUND THE RINKS
* Andrei Vasilevskiy made 30 saves, including 20 in the second period, to guide the Lightning to their seventh consecutive victory over the Sabres dating to Dec. 4, 2014 (BUF: 0-7-0), including a 3-0-0 record this season. Vasilevskiy, who recently returned from offseason surgery to remove a blood clot, improved to 9-5-1 in 18 NHL appearances (2.32 GAA, .921 SV%, 1 SO) and 3-0-0 in three career starts vs. BUF (0.67 GAA, .971 SV%, 1 SO).

* Mikael Backlund found the back of the net 35 seconds into overtime to lift the Flames to their second win in their past three starts following a string of four consecutive losses (0-3-1). Backlund (1-1—2) registered his third career overtime goal, also Feb. 1, 2014 vs. MIN and Oct. 15, 2014 at CHI. He also scored the overtime winner in Game 3 of the team’s Second Round series vs. ANA in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

* Alex Stalock stopped 31 shots, including all 11 he faced in the final period, to pick up his first win of the season (4 GP) and propel the Sharks to their second victory in their last three outings. Stalock improved to 22-16-5 in 53 NHL appearances (2.31 GAA, .914 SV%, 4 SO) – that includes an 11-5-2 record in 22 games at SAP Center, where he has a 1.76 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and three shutouts.

* Two nights after scoring the winning goal in overtime, Kyle Turris potted the decisive marker in the shootout to power the Senators to their fourth victory in their past five games. Turris, who saw his four-game goal streak (in regulation/overtime) come to an end, leads the Senators with 8-5—13 through the team’s opening 13 contests, including a pair of game-winning goals (also Oct. 8 at BUF).

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS
* Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin recorded his 482nd NHL goal to move within one of tying Sergei Fedorov (483) for the most goals by a Russian-born player in League history.

* Sharks forward Patrick Marleau scored to move within three points of 1,000 in his NHL career (460-537—997 in 1,342 GP).

* Capitals defenseman John Carlson registered 1-1—2 to eclipse 200 NHL points (48-153—201 in 410 GP).
