PRICE, CANADIENS EXTEND RECORD STREAK TO OPEN SEASON
Carey Price stopped all 38 shots he faced, including 17 in the first period, to record his 36th career shutout and help the Canadiens improve to 7-0-0, their best start in the franchise’s 98-year NHL history.

* Via Elias, the Canadiens became the sixth team in NHL history – and first in 21 years – to begin a season with seven consecutive victories, all in regulation. The others: the 1975-76 Sabres, 1985-86 Nordiques, 1993-94 Devils, 1993-94 Maple Leafs and 1994-95 Penguins. Only the 1975-76 Sabres extended their streak to eight games.

* Elias adds that the Canadiens have won seven straight games – in any fashion and at any point in the season – for the first time since March 28 – April 9, 2002 (7-0-0). They last won seven consecutive games in regulation from Oct. 24 – Nov. 11, 1992 (8-0-0).

* Price has started six of Montreal’s opening seven contests, posting a 6-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average, .966 save percentage and two shutouts. He has stopped 170 of 176 shots during his six-game personal winning streak, one shy of his career high last accomplished Nov. 19 – Dec. 7, 2013 (7-0-0).

* The Canadiens remain the only team without a loss of any kind this season.

OVECHKIN REACHES 900-POINT MILESTONE IN CAPITALS’ VICTORY
Alex Ovechkin registered 1-1—2, including his 900th NHL point via a go-ahead goal in the second period, to lead the Capitals to their third consecutive victory.

* Ovechkin (479-422—901) reached the 900-point milestone in his 764th NHL game (all w/ WSH). Per Elias, he became the fastest player to achieve the milestone – in terms of games played – since Jaromir Jagr recorded his 900th NHL point in his 681st appearance on Nov. 26, 1999 vs. OTT (3-1—4 w/ PIT).

* Ovechkin, the first overall selection by the Capitals in the 2004 NHL Draft, became the first player in franchise history to reach the 900-point milestone. Since beginning his NHL career in 2005-06, Ovechkin has compiled 138 more goals and 45 more points than the next-closest players (Jarome Iginla and Sidney Crosby, respectively).

* Ovechkin, a native of Moscow, Russia, also became the fourth Russian-born player to record 900 NHL points. The others: Sergei Fedorov (483-696—1,179), Alexander Mogilny (473-559—1,032) and Alex Kovalev (430-599—1,029). Ovechkin, who has scored in all four of his appearances this season (4-2—6), also moved within four goals of Fedorov for the most by a Russian-born player in NHL history.

STARS, ISLANDERS PUSH WINNING STREAKS TO FOUR GAMES
The Stars and Islanders both extended their winning streaks to four games with road victories:

* Jamie Benn (GWG) and Tyler Seguin both collected 1-1—2 to power the Stars to their fourth straight win overall and third consecutive victory on their four-game road trip. Benn extended his season-opening point streak to six games (6-4—10). Via Elias, he became the first Stars/North Stars player to begin a season with a point streak of six or more games since 1989-90, when Brian Bellows posted a seven-game point streak to open the campaign (8-4—12). Seguin also stretched his assist/point streak to five contests (4-6—10).

* Jaroslav Halak stopped all 37 shots he faced, including 13 in the middle frame, to earn his 37th career shutout and lead the Islanders to their fourth straight win. Halak, who set a career high and franchise record with 38 wins last season, improved to 2-0-0 in his first two appearances of 2015-16 (1.50 GAA, .952 SV%, 1 SO). He also improved to 10-4-3 in 17 career games against the Blue Jackets (2.59 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO).

60 IS NOT ENOUGH
Three of Tuesday’s games required extra time to decide a winner:

* Sidney Crosby posted 1-2—3, his first three points of the season, to lift the Penguins to their third consecutive victory following a 0-3-0 start. Evgeni Malkin (1-1—2) notched hiseighth career overtime goal (all w/ PIT) to move within one of Jaromir Jagr’s franchise record.

* Mikkel Boedker knotted the game with 50.9 seconds remaining in regulation, but Adam Larsson (1-1—2) scored his first career overtime goal at 0:43 of the extra period to power the Devils to their second straight win – both in overtime.

* James Neal (2-1—3) notched his second consecutive multi-goal game and Filip Forsberg (0-2—2) potted the lone marker in the shootout to help the Predators overcome a trio of one-goal deficits (2-1, 3-2 and 4-3) and improve to 3-0-0 this season at Bridgestone Arena.

DOAN PLAYS 1,400TH NHL GAME . . .
Coyotes captain Shane Doan, the seventh overall selection by the Jets in the 1995 NHL Draft, became the 34th player in League history to appear in 1,400 games. Doan, however, became just the eighth player in NHL history to reach that milestone with one franchise.
