McDAVID'S THREE POINTS LEAD OILERS IN WIN AT CALGARY
Oilers rookie center Connor McDavid had a night to remember in his fifth NHL game and first against the Flames, notching the first multi-goal and three-point effort of his young career (2-1—3). The Oilers won their first game of the season and snapped a seven-game winless streak against their provincial rival dating to March 1, 2014 (0-5-2).

* All five Oilers goals were scored by players selected first overall in the NHL Draft -- two by McDavid (2015) and one each from Taylor Hall (2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011) and Nail Yakupov (2012). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Oilers are the first team in NHL history to get goals from four no. 1 overall picks in one game.

ICYMI: McDavid's bid for another goal was thwarted by a brilliant save from Calgary goaltender Jonas Hiller.

MONTREAL REMAINS PERFECT...
The Canadiens scored four unanswered goals, including the game-winner by defensemanJeff Petry in the third period, to improve to 6-0-0 and extend their franchise record for consecutive wins to start a season. The Canadiens are the only NHL club without a regulation or overtime/shootout loss.

* Carey Price (21 saves) moved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 1.20 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage. Price also improved to 8-3-1 in 12 career appearances against the Red Wings (2.31 GAA, .921 SV%, 1 SO).

... WHILE ISLANDERS HAND SHARKS FIRST LOSS
After overcoming three separate one-goal deficits, the Islanders scored three unanswered goals to hand the Sharks their first loss of the season. Six different skaters scored for the Islanders.

* Kyle Okposo recorded three points (1-2—3), including the game-winning goal at 4:18 of the third period. He has 2-4—6 in his current three-game point streak.

* The Islanders also received multiple points from Josh Bailey (1-1—2), Frans Nielsen(1-1—2), John Tavares (0-2—2) and Ryan Strome (0-2—2). Tavares has recorded three consecutive multiple-point games (2-5—7).

* Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves to earn the victory in his season debut.

SEGUIN, BENN SPEARHEAD STARS RALLY OVER PANTHERS
Facing a 2-0 deficit early in the second period, the Stars scored four unanswered goals – two by Tyler Seguin (2-2—4) and two by Jamie Benn (2-1—3) – to rally over the Panthers. Dallas improved to 4-1-1 in their last six visits to FLA dating to March 1, 2007.

* Benn, last year's Art Ross Trophy winner as the League's scoring leader, has collected at least one point in each of the Stars' first five games of the season (5-3—8), while Seguin, whose goal with 3:02 left in the third period stood as the game-winner, has 3-5—8 in his current four-game point streak. Benn and Seguin's 164 combined points (72-92—164) in 2014-15 were more than any other pair of teammates in the NHL.

BACKSTROM SPARKS CAPITALS IN SEASON DEBUT
Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom recorded three points (1-2—3) in his season debut, including the game-winning goal early in the third period, to lead the Capitals past the Hurricanes. Backstrom, who led the NHL in assists (60) and ranked sixth in points (78) in 2014-15, had missed Washington's first three games following hip surgery in the offseason.

* Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (1-1—2) has recorded back-to-back multi-point performances (2-2—4), which includes two power-play goals. Washington improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight contests vs. CAR dating to Dec. 20, 2013.

MAINTAINING AN EDGE
* The Bruins won their seventh consecutive game against Arizona as Patrice Bergeron(2-1—3) broke a 3-3 tie with consecutive power-play goals in the third period. David Krejci notched three points (1-2—3), moving to first place in the NHL scoring race with 4-5—9. Krejci has collected at least one point in each of the team’s first five games of the season. Tuukka Rask made 20 saves to improve to 6-1-0 in seven career appearances vs. the Coyotes (2.00 GAA, .925 SV%).

* The Canadiens improved to 7-0-0 in their last seven contests against Detroit dating to March 27, 2014, a streak that includes four consecutive wins at Bell Centre.

* The Lightning posted their sixth consecutive victory over Buffalo as Ben Bishop made 31 saves to earn his 84th career victory as a member of the Lightning, passing Nikolai Khabibulin for first place on the franchise’s all-time list. Bishop also improved to 8-0-1 in nine career games vs. BUF (1.63 GAA, .938 SV%, 1 SO).

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS

* Coyotes forward Shane Doan (1-2—3) eclipsed the 900-point plateau (369-533—902 in 1,399 GP), joining Dale Hawerchuk (929) as the second player franchise history to reach the milestone.
