STANLEY CUP FINAL SHIFTS TO UNITED CENTER FOR GAME 6
The Stanley Cup will be on the line as the Final returns to United Center for Game 6 between the Blackhawks and Lightning. In Game 5, Antoine Vermette scored the tiebreaking goal at 2:00 of the third period to lift the Blackhawks within one victory of their third Stanley Cup in the past six years (and sixth in franchise history) – no club has won the Stanley Cup three times in a six-year span since the Red Wings did so from 1997-02 (in 1997, 1998 and 2002). The Lightning, meanwhile, have suffered consecutive losses for just the second time this postseason (also in Games 4 and 5 of the SR vs. MTL) – they have not lost three straight games at any point this season (regular season and playoffs).

Trends:

* The Blackhawks are 15-4 in their last 19 playoff games in which they could eliminate an opponent (dating to Game 6 of the 2009 CQF at CGY). That includes a 3-1 record this year (Ws in Game 6 of the FR vs. NSH, Game 4 of the SR at MIN and Game 7 of the CF at ANA).

* The Lightning are 7-2 in their last nine games when facing elimination (dating to Game 5 of the 2011 CQF at PIT). That includes a 3-0 record this year, featuring a Game 6 victory on the road in the First Round at DET (5-2 W).

* The Blackhawks are 42-14 in Games 4-7 since the start of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including an 8-2 record this year. Since 2012, they have won 18 of 22 contests in Games 5-7 (10-2 at home).

* The Blackhawks also are 17-1 in Games 5-7 of series in which they have been tied at 2-2 since the start of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Their lone such loss was in Game 5 of this year’s Western Conference Final at ANA (5-4 OT L).

* The Blackhawks are 12-1 in Game 6s since the start of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs (2-0 this year). Their lone such loss was in the 2012 Western Conference Quarterfinals vs. PHX (4-0 L that eliminated them from the playoffs).

* The Lightning are 2-1 in Game 6s this postseason (1-0 on the road). Their lone such loss was in the Eastern Conference Final vs. NYR (7-3 L).

* The Blackhawks pace the NHL with an 8-2 record on home ice during the playoffs, outscoring opponents 34-23. Their two losses at United Center were in Games 3 of the Western Conference Final (2-1 L vs. ANA) and Stanley Cup Final (3-2 L vs. TBL).

* The Lightning lead the League with an 8-4 record as visitors this postseason, outscoring opponents 32-20. Their eight road wins are a franchise record in one playoff year (and two shy of the NHL record).

ANOTHER CLOSE CALL?
* The Blackhawks and Lightning have played five consecutive one-goal games to open the Stanley Cup Final. Only one previous Stanley Cup Final has featured five straight one-goal games to begin the series – the 1951 affair between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens in which all five contests required overtime (TOR, 4-1).

* Overall, 10 of the past 12 games between the Blackhawks and Lightning – including the regular season – have been decided by one goal dating to March 9, 2011 (CHI: 4-4-4, TBL: 8-3-1).

* On top of every game being decided by one goal, the Blackhawks and Lightning have been tied or separated by one goal for the entire series (300:00). This marks the first Stanley Cup Final in which neither team has held a multi-goal lead at any point in the opening five games of the series.

* All five games in the Stanley Cup Final have been tied or within one goal entering the final five minutes of regulation, as have more than half of all contests this postseason (55 of 88, 62.5%).

* The winning goal has been scored in the third period in each game thus far in the Stanley Cup Final, including two in the final five minutes of regulation (by Chicago’sAntoine Vermette at 15:26 in Game 1 and Tampa Bay’s Cedric Paquette at 16:49 in Game 3).

* The Blackhawks and Lightning have been tied after two periods in three consecutive games. The Blackhawks are 6-2 in that scenario this postseason, while the Lightning are 4-2 – their two such losses came in the past two games of the Stanley Cup Final.

* Overall, the Blackhawks are 11-4 in one-goal games during the playoffs; the Lightning are 6-6.

GAME 6 NOTES
Overall, Elias says teams that hold a 3-2 series advantage in the Stanley Cup Final have gone on to win the championship in 29 of 37 instances (78.4%) since the series adopted the best-of-seven format in 1939.

The club that has won Game 5 after a split of the opening four contests of the Final has gone on to capture the Stanley Cup 16 of 23 times (69.6%). The road team has won Game 5 six previous times in that scenario. Of those six clubs, two ultimately won the Stanley Cup in Game 6 (NYR in 1940 at TOR and TOR in 1967 vs. MTL); the other four lost the series in seven contests.

In 2004, the most recent such instance when the road team won Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final after the series was tied at 2-2, the Lightning – who lost Game 5 at home – rebounded with wins in Games 6 (3-2 in 2OT) and 7 (2-1) vs. CGY to capture their first championship in franchise history.

LONG TIME COMING?
The Blackhawks have not won the Stanley Cup on home ice since April 12, 1938, when they defeated the Maple Leafs, 4-1, to close the best-of-five Final in four games.

The Blackhawks have made the Final 10 times since that date (including this year). They only have had the opportunity to win the Stanley Cup on home ice in one of those other series – the 1971 Stanley Cup Final vs. MTL, in which they lost Game 7 at Chicago Stadium, 3-2.

DID YOU KNOW?
Game 6 marks the Lightning’s 26th contest of the postseason, tied for the most in one playoff year in NHL history (7 GP vs. DET in FR, 6 GP vs. MTL in SR, 7 GP vs. NYR in CF and 6 GP vs. CHI in F).

The others to reach that number: the 1987 Flyers, 2004 Flames and 2014 Kings. Of those teams, only the 2014 Kings won the Stanley Cup.

A closer look:

1987 Flyers
6 GP vs. NYR (DSF), 7 GP vs. NYI (DF), 6 GP vs. MTL (CF) and 7 GP vs. EDM (F)

2004 Flames
7 GP vs. VAN (DSF), 6 GP vs. DET (DF), 6 GP vs. SJS (CF) and 7 GP vs. TBL (F)

2014 Kings
