THURSDAY’S RESULT
Home Team in Caps
Anaheim 2, CHICAGO 1 – ANA leads series 2-1

DUCKS BOUNCE BACK, TAKE 2-1 SERIES LEAD OVER BLACKHAWKS
Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots, including all 21 he faced after the first period, and Simon Despres scored the tiebreaking goal in the final minute of the middle frame to propel the Ducks to a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Final.

* The Ducks improved to 10-2 this postseason (w/ both losses in OT). Per Elias, they have won 10 of their first 12 playoff games for the second time in franchise history. The other instance: in 2003, when the Ducks advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in club history. The 2012 Kings were the last team to accomplish that feat, going 11-1 in their first 12 games en route to winning the Stanley Cup.

* After falling in triple-overtime in Game 2 (their first home loss of the playoffs), the Ducks bounced back by handing the Blackhawks their first home defeat of the postseason (5-1). They also improved to 5-1-0 in their last six visits to United Center dating to Feb. 12, 2013 (regular season and playoffs).

* Andersen has been in net for all 12 Ducks games this postseason, compiling a 1.75 goals-against average, .935 save percentage and one shutout. That includes a 1.27 goals-against average and .957 save percentage in the three games vs. CHI.

* Andersen, who made a career-high 53 saves in Game 2, has not lost consecutive appearances since March 6 (5-2 L vs. PIT) and 9 (2-1 L at VAN). He owns a 15-4-0 record since that date (regular season and playoffs).

* Despres, who was acquired by the Ducks at the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline, scored his first career playoff goal (18 GP). Elias says he became the third defenseman in team history to have his first career postseason goal stand as a winning tally. The others:Dave Karpa on April 29, 1997 (Game 7 of CQF vs. PHX) and Kurt Sauer on May 12, 2003 (Game 2 of CF at MIN).

* Elias adds that Despres became the first player to register his first career playoff goal with a winner in the Conference Finals or Stanley Cup Final since Kings defensemanAlec Martinez did so on June 4, 2012 (Game 3 of F vs. NJD).

* Despres has 1-6—7 this postseason (12 GP) after being held without a point in his first six career playoff appearances (all w/ PIT). He also set career highs in goals (3), assists (20) and points (23) during the regular season (75 GP), including 1-5—6 after joining the Ducks (16 GP).

* “I’m not a goal-scorer,” said Despres, a 23-year-old Laval, Que., native who was selected by the Penguins 30th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft. “I just tried to hit the net and get it off as quick as possible.”

* Ryan Getzlaf notched a pair of assists, including the primary helper on Despres’ winner. He paces the NHL with 14 assists this postseason (12 GP), matching a single-year franchise record he established in 2009 (13 GP).

* Via Elias, Getzlaf became the first player in Ducks history to register five multi-assist games in one playoff year (also Game 1 of FR vs. WPG and Games 1, 2 and 3 of SR vs. CGY). Bruins forward David Krejci was the last player to accomplish that feat for any team, also doing so five times in 2013 (22 GP).

* Getzlaf has 2-14—16 overall this postseason, tied with teammate Corey Perry (8-8—16 in 12 GP) and Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (7-9—16 in 16 GP) for second in the NHL. Getzlaf and Perry are two points shy of equaling the Ducks’ single-year playoff record, set by Getzlaf in 2009 (4-14—18 in 13 GP).

* Patrick Maroon recorded the opening goal of the game, his fifth of the playoffs (12 GP) after posting nine during the regular season (71 GP).

* The club that has scored first has won each game of this series. Overall, the Ducks (6-0) and Blackhawks (6-1) are a combined 12-1 when registering the first goal this postseason.
