THIRD-PERIOD RALLY POWERS DUCKS PAST PREDATORS . . .
Down 2-0 after 40 minutes, the Ducks scored four unanswered goals in the third period – including the tying and winning markers 35 seconds apart – to sweep their three-game season series with the Predators.

* At 44-20-7 (95 points), the Ducks leapfrogged the Predators (43-21-7, 93 points) for first place in the Western Conference, where the top three clubs are separated by two points:

* Anaheim’s 44 victories are tied for the second-most through 71 games in franchise history, trailing only the 2013-14 club (46-18-7).

* The Ducks earned their League-leading 11th win of the season when trailing after two periods (11-20-0), one more than the Flames (10-18-3). Anaheim’s .355 winning percentage in that scenario also paces the NHL (DET ranks second at .346).

* The Ducks overcame a 2-0 deficit after two periods for the second time in the past three weeks. They also accomplished that feat on Feb. 27 vs. LAK.

* Kyle Palmieri and Nate Thompson scored 35 seconds apart to help the Ducks turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Thompson recorded his sixth career game-winning goal and second of the season (also Oct. 31 at DAL).

* Ryan Getzlaf got the Ducks on the board with his 23rd goal of the season. He leads the team and is tied for ninth in the NHL with 23-41—64.

* Cam Fowler supplied the club’s other goal, his first via the power play since Jan. 21, 2014 vs. WPG.

* Hampus Lindholm and Patrick Maroon both added two assists. With his performance, Maroon (7-23—30 in 62 GP) surpassed his point total from his rookie season in 2013-14 (11-18—29 in 62 GP).

* John Gibson made 25 saves to improve to 11-6-0 this season (2.51 GAA, .919 SV%, 1 SO), including wins in five of his past six starts.

* The Ducks improved to 8-1-0 in their last nine meetings with the Predators dating to Jan. 26, 2013. They also improved to 15-3-0 this season against Central Division opponents.

. . . TALBOT, RANGERS CONTINUE SURGE TO MAINTAIN FIRST OVERALL
Cam Talbot made 38 saves – matching a career high set Feb. 16 at NYI – to backstop the Rangers to their fifth consecutive victory. The team also earned at least one point for the 17th time in their past 18 outings dating to Feb. 8 (14-1-3).

* At 44-17-7 (95 points), the Rangers maintained the No. 1 overall seed in the NHL standings, where the top 10 clubs are separated by eight points:

* New York’s 95 points are its most through the opening 68 games of one season since 1971-72 (101 points).

* The Rangers allowed one goal or fewer in regulation for the seventh consecutive game, a first in franchise history (via Elias).

* Elias also says the Rangers matched a franchise record with their fifth consecutive win while allowing no more than one goal in each game. That mark was set in March 1927, the team’s inaugural season, and equaled only once before – in March 2007.

* The Rangers improved to 8-0-2 in their last 10 games at Madison Square Garden, including five straight wins. They last earned at least one point in 10 consecutive home games from Feb. 16 – April 4, 2008 (8-0-3).

* Talbot extended his personal winning streak to four games (0.75 GAA, .976 SV%, 1 SO). He has picked up at least one point in 15 of his last 16 appearances (12-1-3), including six straight (5-0-1).

* Matt Hunwick (1-1—2) and James Sheppard both scored their first goals as Rangers. Hunwick snapped a 93-game drought with his first goal since March 17, 2012 at NYR (w/ COL). He also recorded his third career game-winning goal and first since Nov. 10, 2009 vs. PIT (w/ BOS).

* Dominic Moore collected two assists for his fourth multi-point game of the season and first since Feb. 10 at TOR (1-1—2).

* The Rangers swept their three-game season series with the Panthers for the second consecutive season. They have won 10 of the clubs’ last 12 meetings dating to Dec. 11, 2011.

HOLTBY BLANKS BRUINS TO PUSH CAPITALS AHEAD IN WILD CARD RACE
Braden Holtby stopped all 32 shots he faced to record his 19th career shutout (eighth this season) and lead the Capitals to their second clean sheet against the Bruins in as many meetings this season (also Oct. 11: 4-0 W).

* At 37-23-10 (84 points), the Capitals leapfrogged the Bruins (36-23-10, 82 points) to reclaim the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The teams meet one more time this season, on April 8 at WSH.

* Holtby registered his eighth shutout of 2014-15 to move within one of Jim Carey’s single-season franchise record (9 in 1995-96). He also blanked the Bruins on Oct. 11 (29 SV); Elias says he is the first goaltender to post multiple shutouts against Boston in one season since 2007-08 (Henrik Lundqvist: 2).

* Holtby’s eight shutouts rank second in the NHL this season, one behind Marc-Andre Fleury. He is 33-18-9 overall, including a 1.90 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and four shutouts in his past 20 starts.

* Holtby improved to 6-2-0 in eight career regular-season appearances vs. BOS (1.80 GAA, .948 SV%, 2 SO).

* Nicklas Backstrom collected two assists to move into first place in Capitals history in that category (420), two ahead of Michal Pivonka and Alex Ovechkin (418). Backstrom leads the NHL with 53 helpers this season, while his 71 points share second overall.

* John Carlson notched his fifth career game-winning goal and second of the season (also Jan. 10 vs. DET). He ranks seventh among defensemen with 11-36—47.

* Nate Schmidt snapped a 38-game drought with his first goal since Dec. 8, 2013 at NYR.

* The Capitals improved to 12-4-3 this season against Atlantic Division opponents, including points in 12 straight games (10-0-2).

HAMMOND CONTINUES RECORD-SETTING START IN SENATORS’ WIN
Andrew Hammond made 27 saves through overtime and stopped all three attempts he faced in the shootout to lift the Senators to their third consecutive win and sixth victory in their past seven outings.

* At 33-24-11 (77 points), the Senators moved within five points of the Bruins (36-23-10, 82 points) – who lost in regulation – for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The teams meet one more time this season, on Thursday at OTT.

* Hammond improved to 10-0-1 since making his first NHL start on Feb. 18. He has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his first 11 starts; Elias says that is one game shy of the NHL record to begin a career, set by Boston’s Frank Brimsek from Nov. 3 – Dec. 27, 1938.

* Elias also says that Hammond is the fifth goaltender in NHL history to pick up at least one point in each of his first 11 career starts. The others: Bob Froese (10-0-1 w/ PHI in 1982-83), Patrick Lalime (10-0-1 w/ PIT in 1996-97), Bill Durnan (9-0-2 w/ MTL in 1943-44) and Ross Brooks (8-0-3 w/ BOS in 1972-73).

* “Obviously it’s pretty surreal to hear [about all of the records]. I’ve seen the tweets and stuff,” Hammond said. “It’s obviously a pretty crazy run and something I’m proud of, but at the end of the day you can’t do it without the team playing well in front of you.”

* Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the club’s lone goal in regulation. Bobby Ryan added the winner in the third round of the shootout, his third decisive goal of the season (also Nov. 25 at STL and Dec. 13 at BOS).

* ICYMI: Hammond, whose nickname is “The Hamburglar,” celebrated the win by picking up a hamburger that found its way on to the ice and tossing it into the crowd.

ALLEN’S FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE LIFTS BLUES TO TOP OF CENTRAL
Jake Allen stopped all 28 shots he faced to record his fifth career shutout (fourth this season) and guide the Blues to their fourth victory in their past five games.

* At 44-20-5 (93 points), the Blues leapfrogged the Predators (43-21-7, 93 points) – who lost in regulation – for first place in the Central Division. St. Louis holds two games in hand, but Nashville owns the ROW tiebreaker (NSH: 37, STL: 35) and won the season series between the clubs (NSH: 3-1-1, STL: 2-3-0).

* Allen improved to 18-6-3 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in 30 appearances this season. Per Elias, his four shutouts equal a Blues record for a rookie goaltender, set by Ernie Wakely in 1969-70 and matched by Brent Johnson in 2000-01.

* Three Blues players registered multi-point games: T.J. Oshie (1-1—2), Alexander Steen (1-1—2) and Alex Pietrangelo (0-2—2).

* Steen reached the 20-goal milestone for the second consecutive season and fourth time in his career. Oshie moved within one of the milestone; he posted a career-high 21 goals in 2013-14.

* Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 34th goal of the season, tied for fourth in the NHL (w/ Max Pacioretty). He also recorded his sixth game-winning goal of the campaign and second against the Stars (other Oct. 28: 3-1—4).

* The Blues improved to 5-2-0 in their last seven visits to American Airlines Center dating to April 7, 2012.

RED WINGS BOUNCE BACK, NARROW ATLANTIC DIVISION GAP
Teemu Pulkkinen (2-0—2) recorded his first career multi-goal game and Petr Mrazek made a career-high 42 saves to help the Red Wings bounce back from a 7-2 loss on Saturday at PHI and pick up their second win in their past four outings.

* At 38-19-11 (87 points), the Red Wings moved within four points of the idle Lightning (42-21-7, 91 points) for second place in the Atlantic Division. Detroit also holds two games in hand, but Tampa Bay owns the ROW tiebreaker (TBL: 40, DET: 35). The clubs meet two more times this season, on Friday at TBL and March 28 at DET.

* Via Elias, Pulkkinen became the first Red Wings rookie to notch a multi-goal game since Feb. 24, 2013 (Joakim Andersson: 2-0—2 vs. VAN).

* Mrazek improved to 14-5-1 with a 2.47 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and one shutout in 21 appearances this season. That includes nine wins in his past 11 decisions.

* Marek Zidlicky posted 1-2—3 for his first three-point performance since Dec. 29, 2011 vs. EDM (0-3—3 w/ MIN). He has 3-4—7 in seven games since joining the Red Wings at the Trade Deadline.

* Riley Sheahan (1-1—2) and Henrik Zetterberg (1-1—2) also registered multi-point games. Zetterberg paces the team with 16-43—59 this season, one point ahead of Pavel Datsyuk (23-35—58).

* The Red Wings have earned at least one point in six of their last eight meetings with the Penguins dating to March 21, 2011 (4-2-2).

MALONE HELPS HURRICANES EDGE BLUE JACKETS
Brad Malone scored late in the second period to snap a 2-2 tie and lead the Hurricanes to their fifth victory in their past eight road games.

* Malone recorded his second game-winning goal in his past six appearances (also Feb. 28 at NYI: 1-1—2). He had zero such goals in his first 101 career outings.

* Malone has 7-6—13 in 53 games this season after compiling 4-5—9 in his first 54 career contests (over parts of three seasons w/ COL).

* Anton Khudobin made 22 saves, including 11 in the third period, to pick up his eighth win of the season. He improved to 3-1-1 in five career appearances vs. CBJ (2.18 GAA, .927 SV%).

* A pair of defensemen – Justin Faulk and Ron Hainsey – provided the other goals. Faulk scored in three of Carolina’s four games against Columbus this season (also Nov. 4: 1-0—1 and March 10: 1-2—3).

* Andrej Nestrasil added two assists for the Hurricanes, who improved to 5-0-2 in their last seven meetings with the Blue Jackets dating to Jan. 27, 2014.

LOOSE PUCKS

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby collected one assist. His 71 points (23-48—71) this season share second in the NHL . . .
