* The Canucks claimed a pivotal victory versus the Stars to keep their playoff hopes alive and gain ground in the tightly-contested Western Conference Wild Card race.

* The 2021-22 William M. Jennings Trophy race is also set to go down to the wire, as the Hurricanes and Flames earned wins Monday but now share the League lead for fewest goals against.

* A total of 20 teams take to the ice Tuesday, including the Panthers and Blues who are set to put their lengthy winning streaks on the line.

CANUCKS SCORE SIX GOALS, EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO SIX GAMES

Elias Pettersson (2-1—3), Brock Boeser (1-2—3) and Jason Dickinson (1-2—3) each had three points as the Canucks (38-28-10, 86 points) improved to 6-0-0 in their last six games and moved within four points of the idle Kings (40-27-10, 90 points), who occupy third place in the Pacific Division. Vancouver also sits one point back of Vegas (41-31-5, 87 points), which ranks fourth in the Pacific Division and fell to New Jersey in regulation Monday.

DIVISION-LEADING HURRICANES, FLAMES BEAT COYOTES, BLACKHAWKS
The Metropolitan Division-leading Hurricanes (49-20-8, 106 points) and Pacific Division-leading Flames (47-20-9, 103 points) each scored five goals in wins Monday:

* Former Coyotes Max Domi (1-1—2) and Antti Raanta (23 saves) helped Carolina claim a victory versus Arizona at Gila River Arena as the Hurricanes reestablished a two-point lead atop the Metropolitan Division. Carolina is looking to clinch first place in its division for the second time in as many seasons and sixth time in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history overall (also 1986-87, 1998-99, 2001-02, 2005-06 & 2020-21).

* Dillon Dube scored 22 seconds into the game and Johnny Gaudreau (208-393—601 in 596 GP) tallied twice to become the fifth player in franchise history to record 600 points with the Flames as Calgary moved nine points ahead of idle Edmonton (44-26-6, 94 points), which occupies second place in the Pacific Division. The Flames are closing in on their eighth division crown in franchise history and second in a four-year span (also 2018-19).

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE 2021-22 WILLIAM M. JENNINGS TROPHY RACE

Antti Raanta, who made his 25th appearance of the season Monday, and Frederik Andersen (52 GP) can become the first goaltenders in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history to win the William M. Jennings TrophyJacob Markstrom (61 GP) can become the second Flames netminder to claim the award, following Miikka Kiprusoff in 2005-06.

STREAKS? DID SOMEONE SAY STREAKS?

The Atlantic Division-leading Panthers (54-15-6, 114 points) and Central Division’s second-place Blues (46-20-10, 102 points) will look to extend their respective 10- and nine-game winning streak as 20 teams take to the ice Tuesday.

* The Panthers will aim to extend the NHL’s longest active winning streak to 11 games when they visit UBS Arena. Florida would move within one contest of matching its franchise record for longest winning streak set in 2015-16 (12 GP from Dec. 15, 2015–Jan. 10, 2016). Should the Panthers be victorious Tuesday, the 2021-22 season would also mark the first campaign in NHL history to feature multiple clubs with 55-plus wins (also Colorado: 55-15-6, 116 points).

* A number of streaks will be on the line at Enterprise Center, with the hosts aiming to record wins in 10 or more consecutive games for the third time in club history – St. Louis is also 11-0-1 in its last 12 contests and can match the franchise record for longest point streak established in 2014-15 (13 GP from Jan. 3–Feb. 5, 2015). Meanwhile, Robert Thomas (6-19—25 in 13 GP) and Pavel Buchnevich (6-12—18 in 10 GP) enter Tuesday with an active 13- and 10-game point streak, respectively.

* Florida and St. Louis, which played a part in the highest-scoring weekend in NHL history after a six- and eight-goal performance Sunday, respectively, remain the only two clubs that haven’t been shut out this season. The 2021-22 campaign can become the third NHL season since 1995-96 to feature multiple teams without a scoreless performance, after 2019-20 (NYR & TBL) and 2012-13 (BOS, CHI & PIT).
