NHL Short Notes

02/26/2022 at 2:25am EST

* The 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series game between the Predators and Lightning will take place tonight (7:30 p.m. ET on TNT, SN 360, TVAS 2) after the teams got a first look at the outdoor setting at Nissan Stadium during practices on Friday.

* Patrick Kane (CHI), Brandon Hagel (CHI) and Gabriel Landeskog (COL) each scored hat tricks Friday and propelled their teams to high-scoring victories on home ice.

* Jonathan Quick backstopped the Kings to victory in the latest rendition of the Freeway Face-Off as Los Angeles climbed into second place in the Pacific Division.

PREDATORS, LIGHTNING SET TO TAKE IT OUTDOORS IN MUSIC CITY
The Predators (30-18-4, 64 points) will host an outdoor game for the first time on Saturday when they welcome the Lightning (33-11-6, 72 points) to Nissan Stadium – home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. It will mark Nashville’s second outdoor game appearance after a 4-2 loss to Dallas at the 2020 Winter Classic. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, will become the 27th NHL team to appear in a regular-season outdoor game when they play outside for the first time.

* Nashville can become the second team to defeat a defending Stanley Cup champion in an outdoor NHL game, following Minnesota’s victory against Chicago in the 2016 NHL Stadium Series at TCF Bank Stadium. Reigning champions own a 4-1-0 record outdoors, with the Red Wings (2009 WC), Blackhawks (2014 SS), Kings (2015 SS) and Penguins (2017 SS) accounting for the wins.

* The Predators, who frequently host members of the Titans for games at Bridgestone Arena, scored a touchdown (extra point included) against the Lightning in their last head-to-head contest (7-2 W on April 13, 2021). Nashville is one of two clubs to score seven goals in a game against Tampa Bay (regular season or playoffs) since they won the first of their back-to-back championships in 2020.

* Predators captain Roman Josi (14-39—53 in 50 GP) and Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman (11-39—50 in 50 GP) enter Saturday ranking second and third, respectively, in points among blueliners this season. Josi (131-368—499 in 730 GP) is also one point shy of 500 in his NHL career.

* The Predators and Lightning both practiced outdoors at Nissan Stadium on Friday while also debuting their Stadium Series uniforms for team pictures. Many key contributors to Tampa Bay’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships will be making their NHL outdoor game debut including Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman, Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brayden Point.

COMEBACKS GALORE HIGHLIGHT FRIDAY SLATE
Four of six games contested Friday featured a team overcome a deficit to win, highlighted by Colorado and St. Louis's 16th come-from-behind victory of the season – behind Columbus, Florida and NY Rangers (all w/ 17) for the most among all teams in 2021-22.

NHL WATCHES HATS FLY FRIDAY
Blackhawks teammates Patrick Kane (3-1—4) and Brandon Hagel (3-0—3) as well as Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog (3-0—3) each scored hat tricks Friday to propel their teams to high-scoring victories.

* Chicago, which scored eight goals in a game for the second time this season (also Jan. 26), featured two players each score a hat trick in the same contest for the fourth time in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68): March 9, 2003 (Eric Daze & Steve Sullivan), Jan. 1, 1986 (Troy Murray & Al Secord) and Feb. 18, 1968 (Stan Mikita & Kenny Wharram).

* After Kyle Connor and his 30th goal of the season helped Winnipeg build a 3-0 lead, Landeskog scored three of six unanswered goals for Colorado to help the NHL-leading Avalanche (38-10-4, 80 points) register a three-goal comeback win for the 22nd time in franchise history and second this season.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion and 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy winner joined Marc-Andre Fleury (508) and Carey Price (360) as just the third active goaltender to reach the 350-win mark.
