BLUES OFF TO FRANCHISE-BEST START
The Blues climbed to 14-3-3, their best 20-game start in franchise history. St. Louis tallied four unanswered goals, including a pair from Brenden Morrow, after the Sabres' Tyler Ennis had scored just 10 seconds into the game. Ennis notched the quickest Sabres goal to start a game since Drew Stafford also scored at the 10-second mark on Jan. 27, 2009 at Edmonton (Elias Sports Bureau).

STRIKING OIL
David Perron recorded a career-high four points (2-2--4) and Ryan Smyth notched 1-2--3 in Edmonton’s 7-0 win over Columbus. The offensive explosion was the team’s highest output since a 7-2 win in last season’s finale against Vancouver. Edmonton entered Tuesday’s game with 11 goals in eight home games this season (1-7-0).

TO THE MAX
Max Pacioretty's 'natural' hat trick highlighted a four-goal second period for the Canadiens as they posted their highest offensive output of the season. Erik Cole was the last Canadiens player to score three consecutive goals in a period when he tallied three times in the first period of a 5-1 win against Ottawa on Mar. 23, 2012 (Elias Sports Bureau).

SCRIVENS, KINGS WIN AGAIN
Goaltender Ben Scrivens won for the fourth time in six days as the Kings improved to 15-6-1 (31 points) through 22 games, matching the second-best start in club history (also 15-6-1 in 2005-06). Valtteri Filppula’s second-period goal ended Scrivens’ shutout streak at 191:19, just shy of Jonathan Quick’s franchise record of 202:11 set in 2011-12. Scrivens has a 1.00 goals-against average and .963 save percentage over the course of his four-game winning streak.

PANTHERS STAY HOT WITH MILESTONE WIN
Shawn Matthias tied the game at 8:34 of the third period and Tim Thomas made 27 saves plus another three in the shootout as Florida improved to 3-1-0 in their last four games. The Panthers posted the first victory in franchise history at Rogers Arena and their first win in Vancouver since Mar. 7, 1994, when Scott Mellanby and Andrei Lomakin tallied in a 2-1 Florida win at Pacific Coliseum in the club's inaugural appearance there.

LUONGO THE LEADER
Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo made 34 saves and stopped one of two shootout attempts against his former team. Luongo played five seasons with Florida (2000-06) and holds franchise records for games played (317), wins (108) and shutouts (26). He also is the Canucks franchise leader in wins (242) and shutouts (37).

PHIL THE NET
Phil Kessel scored his team-leading 11th and 12th goals of the season and Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves as the Maple Leafs won their fifth consecutive home game. Kessel eclipsed 400 NHL points (197-203--400 in 525 games) with his third multi-goal game of the season, joining nine other active U.S.-born players with at least 400 career points.

STARTING TO FLY
Veteran defenseman Kimmo Timonen (1-2--3) assisted the first two Flyers goals and scored the game-winner midway through the third as Philadelphia improved to 6-1-2 since a 7-0 loss to Washington on Nov. 1. Captain Claude Giroux opened the scoring late in the first period, improving the team’s record to 8-3-1 when scoring first (8-10-2 overall).

WEBER, MAZANEC LEAD PREDS
Nashville captain Shea Weber scored his 114th career goal, the game-winner, just five seconds before the end of the second period at Detroit. Weber's goal moved him past Kimmo Timonen and into first place on the franchise’s all-time points list among defensemen (114-188--302 in 549 games).

Marek Mazanec, Nashville’s sixth round pick (179th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, made 27 saves for his first career shutout in his fifth NHL game (2-2-0). The 22-year-old Czech Republic native stopped 39 Chicago shots Saturday en route to his first career victory.

NHL GARNERS MARKETING HONORS
The National Hockey League captured a pair of awards Tuesday night as PromaxBDA, the leading global association for marketing, promotion and design professionals in the media industry, held its 2013 Sports Media Marketing Awards ceremony in New York. The NHL received two honors in the Leagues and Governing Bodies category: gold in the Best Overall Integrated Marketing Campaign for the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs and silver in the Best Use of Original Music or Sound Design. Gold and silver winners in the Teams and Intra-League categories include the Lightning, Blackhawks, Blues, Devils, Rangers and Islanders.

Defenseman Adrian Aucoin announced his retirement Tuesday after 17 NHL seasons. Aucoin, 40, recorded 121-278--399 in 1,108 games with seven clubs… Tuukka Rask made a season-high 43 saves as the Bruins posted a 2-1 win despite being outshot 44-22. Rask improved to 12-5-1 this season… Avalanche forward Paul Stastny scored his 143rd career goal, moving past Dale Hunter into eighth place on the franchise’s all-time list.
