OFFSEASON ADDITIONS TOFFOLI, ANDERSON CONTINUE TO SHINE FOR CANADIENS
Tyler Toffoli (2-1—3) and Josh Anderson (2-0—2) accounted for four of Montreal’s five goals as the Canadiens improved to 7-1-2 (16 points) this season, including a 4-0-1 mark against the Canucks, to move past the idle Maple Leafs (7-2-1, 15 points) for first place in the Scotia North Division standings.

* Montreal also owns the most points in the NHL, the best goal differential (+17), second-most goals for (44, behind VAN: 45) and the third-highest points percentage (.800) behind Florida (.917 in 6 GP) and Carolina (.857 in 7 GP).

* Toffoli (9-4—13 in 10 GP) vaulted past divisional opponents Connor McDavid (8-16—24 in 12 GP) and Brock Boeser (8-4—12 in 13 GP) for the League lead in goals this season with nine, including eight versus Vancouver. He became the third player in the NHL’s modern era to score nine goals through his first 10 games in a Canadiens uniform.



* Toffoli became the first player in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) – and just the 10th in League history overall – to score at least eight goals against a team that he played for during the preceding season. The last player to do so before Toffoli was fellow Canadiens forward Dick Duff, who was traded from the NY Rangers to Montreal in 1964-65 and then had 8-7—15 in 12 games versus the Rangers in 1965-66.

* Anderson owns the second-most goals among Canadiens skaters with six this season (6-2—8 in 10 GP), three back of Toffoli. Anderson’s eight points in 2020-21 have already doubled his 26-game total from 2019-20 (1-3—4 w/ CBJ).

PAVELSKI POSTS SECOND FOUR-POINT PERFORMANCE OF 2020-21
Joe Pavelski (2-2—4) had four points in a game for the second time this season (also 2-2—4 on Jan. 22) and John Klingbergeclipsed 300 in his NHL career as Dallas defeated Columbus to improve to 5-1-1 (11 points) in 2020-21. Pavelski became the second-oldest player in franchise history with multiple four-point games in a campaign – no Stars/North Stars skater age 35 or older has ever recorded three such outings in a single season.

* Pavelski (7-7—14 in 7 GP) is averaging exactly two points per game in 2020-21, tied with Connor McDavid (8-16—24 in 12 GP; 2.00 P/GP) for the highest pace among all players this season (min. 5 GP).



MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM TUESDAY
Wins were earned, streaks were extended and milestones were reached during Tuesday’s eight-game slate:

* League scoring leaders Connor McDavid (0-2—2) and Leon Draisaitl (1-0—1) each extended their point streak to eight games as the Oilers picked up another win over the Senators. McDavid has recorded multiple points in each of his last six outings – that’s two shy of the longest such run of his NHL career, a mark set from March 2-17, 2019 (8 GP).

* Jordan Kyrou (0-2—2) registered multiple points in a game for the fourth time this season to boost his team-leading totals to 5-7—12 (10 GP) and help St. Louis improve to 4-0-0 in its last four contests. The Blues improved to 7-2-1 (15 points) in 2020-21 overall and share the most points in the Honda West Division standings with the Avalanche (7-3-1, 15 points), who also won Tuesday.



* The Blackhawks erased 2-0 and 3-2 deficits, but Andrei Svechnikov (1-0—1) scored the only goal in the shootout and James Reimer made 30 saves as the Hurricanes improved to 6-1-0 in 2020-21. Reimer (4-0-0, 2.20 GAA, .915 SV%) became the fourth Hurricanes/Whalers goaltender to win each of his first four appearances in a season.

* Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau (0-1—1) extended his season-opening point streak to nine games (6-5—11). Gaudreau (Salem, N.J.), who owns the League’s longest point streak in 2020-21 (season opening or otherwise), became the sixth U.S.-born player in NHL history to begin a campaign with points in nine or more consecutive team games.



* Senators forward Tim Stützle, the third overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, scored for a second straight game. Fellow teenager Arthur Kaliyev (19 years, 221 days) became the second-youngest Kings player to score a goal in his NHL debut, joining teammate Anze Kopitar (19 years, 43 days) on Oct. 6, 2006.

* Canadiens captain Shea Weber assisted on the winning goal while skating in the 1,000th regular-season game of his NHL career. He became the fifth defenseman from the 2003 NHL Draft class to reach the milestone.

FLYERS, BRUINS TO MEET IN LAKE TAHOE PREVIEW
The Flyers (7-2-1, 15 points) and Bruins (6-1-2, 14 points), two of the top three teams in the MassMutual East Division, take the national spotlight in both the U.S. (NBCSN) and Canada (SN, TVAS) tonight at 8 p.m. ET. Their third meeting of the season opens a two-game set in Philadelphia (also Friday), leading into their showdown in Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday on Feb. 21 at Lake Tahoe (3 p.m. ET on NBC, SN, TVAS).



* ICYMI: Philadelphia’s James van Riemsdyk, who is tied for the most outdoor games played in NHL history (6 GP), participated in a Zoom conference alongside teammate Kevin Hayes and Boston’s Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy. van Riemsdyk made his first NHL outdoors appearance in the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park when the Flyers lost to the Bruins following a late-game rally, one of two outdoor wins for Boston.

* The Bruins have an active six-game point streak in the regular season against the Flyers dating to Jan. 31, 2019, including wins in each meeting so far in 2020-21 (Jan. 21 and Jan. 23). Boston has only two regulation losses against Philadelphia since 2013-14, posting two other point streaks of at least six regular-season games against them over that span.
