CAPITALS STUN SHARKS WITH LATE MULTI-GOAL COMEBACK WIN. . .
After Capitals forwards Jakub Vrana (2-0—2) and T.J. Oshie (1-1—2) each scored in the final minute of regulation to erase a 5-3 Sharks lead and Braden Holtby turned aside a Brent Burns breakaway in overtime, Lars Eller scored on an odd-man rush to help Washington (29-9-5, 63 points) stun San Jose (19-21-4, 42 points).

* The League-leading Capitals became the seventh different team in NHL history to win after overcoming a multi-goal deficit in the final minute of regulation.

* Washington is no stranger to posting improbable comebacks in 2019-20. Eller also played a pivotal role in their game against the Canucks on Oct. 25 (1-1—2), which witnessed the Capitals erase a 5-1 deficit in regulation and prevail in the shootout.

* Sunday’s victory marked the Capitals’ 14th comeback win, tied with the Western Conference-leading Blues for the most among all clubs in 2019-20. Additionally, their six multi-goal comeback wins pace all teams and are one more than the next closest (DAL and FLA both w/ 5).

* Eller’s third career overtime goal boosted his 2019-20 totals to 10-15—25. He became the seventh Capitals player to score at least 10 goals this season. Washington is one of two teams to feature seven players with the benchmark total, joining Colorado.

The Blackhawks (19-18-6, 44 points), Flames (22-17-5, 49 points) and Ducks (17-20-5, 39 points) also overcame respective deficits to collect two points and continue Sunday’s trend of comeback wins:

* Trailing 2-0 entering the second period, Chicago scored four unanswered goals to earn its fourth win in five games. Nineteen-year-old Adam Boqvist registered the game-winning goal as the Blackhawks (Kirby Dach: 2) joined the Hurricanes (Andrei Svechnikov: 3) as the second team to have three game-winning tallies scored by teenagers in 2019-20.

* After the Flames tied the game four times in regulation, Dillon Dube netted the shootout-deciding goal and David Rittich earned his 53rd career win (100 GP) as Calgary survived a back-and-forth affair at Xcel Energy Center. Only two Czech-born goaltenders in NHL history have posted more wins through their first 100 career games than Rittich (Jihlava, Czech Republic) - Roman Turek (58; Strak, Czech Republic) and Roman Cechmanek (57; Gottwaldov, Czech Republic).

* Captain Ryan Getzlaf recorded his 33rd career game with at least three assists and tallied the shootout winner as the Ducks scored three straight second-period goals to erase a one-goal deficit and hold off the Predators in a shootout. Anaheim’s 36 shots through two periods trailed only Oct. 13, 2013 (45) for the highest such total through 40 minutes of a game in franchise history.

LIGHTNING POST FIFTH SEVEN-GAME WIN STREAK SINCE 2018-19
Three different players scored and Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside 28 shots as the Lightning (24-13-4, 52 points) swept their four-game road trip to extend the League’s longest active win streak to seven games (tied w/ VAN).

* The Lightning and Canucks are set to square off Tuesday in Tampa Bay, with Vancouver winning three of its last four visits to AMALIE Arena. The matchup is set to be the second in NHL history to feature two teams with an active win streak of at least seven games. Columbus doubled up Minnesota 4-2 on Dec. 31, 2016, when the clubs entered the contest with 14- and 12-game win streaks, respectively.

* Tampa Bay, which posted four win streaks of seven or more games in 2018-19 and matched the NHL record for most victories in a single season, is one of four different teams in NHL history to register at least five such runs over a span of two campaigns.



* Vasilevskiy has won each of his first seven career games against the Hurricanes dating to Nov. 1, 2015 (7-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .934 SV%), allowing one goal or fewer in four of those contests. Carolina is one of two teams the 25-year-old netminder has yet to suffer a loss against (min. 5 GP). The other: Detroit (8-0-0 dating to Dec. 20, 2016).

OTHER STRONG SUNDAY PERFORMANCES

* Predators captain Roman Josi assisted on Nashville’s game-tying goal to extend his point streak to a franchise-record 10 games and match Bruins forward David Pastrnak for the League’s longest active run. He became the seventh different defenseman since 1999-00 to record a point streak of at least 10 contests.



* Evander Kane netted his third career hat trick and second of 2019-20 (also Oct. 16 vs. CAR) to become the fourth player in Sharks history to score multiple hat tricks prior to his team’s 45th game of a season. The others: Dany Heatley (2 in 2009-10), Jonathan Cheechoo (2 in 2005-06) and Rob Gaudreau (2 in 1992-93).

* Jonathan Huberdeau assisted on the Panthers’ fourth goal of Sunday's contest to boost his season totals to 17-40—57 in 42 GP. Florida’s all-time leader in assists required the fewest games by a Panthers player to record his 40th assist of the season, besting the previous mark held by Viktor Kozlov (55 GP in 1999-00).

* When the Maple Leafs’ streak began against Monday’s opponent, Toronto (16-14-4, 36 points) sat 12 points behind Atlantic Division-leading Boston (21-7-6, 48 points). Following the weekend’s action, the Maple Leafs have narrowed their deficit to six standings points.
