THREE HARD LAPS

* The Stars rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit with a Texas-sized comeback, scoring four consecutive goals to win in their outdoor game debut at the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. It was the second consecutive game in which they overcame a multi-goal deficit to win.

* Cotton Bowl Stadium marked the second-highest attended game in NHL history, behind only the 2014 Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium (105,491).

* Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are set to become the 12th, 13th and 14th players in NHL history to play at least one game in four or more different decades when they take to the ice on Thursday.

STARS CONTINUE COMEBACK WAYS TO WIN OUTDOOR GAME DEBUT

A raucous crowd of 85,630 roared through player entries, a ceremonial puck drop featuring Cotton Bowl Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Ricky Williams and Texas traditions including pig races and mutton busting before watching the hometown Stars rally from an early 2-0 deficit with four consecutive goals – including three in the final frame – to win in their outdoor game debut at the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

* The Stars rallied from a multi-goal deficit to win for the second consecutive game after also doing so in a 4-2 win at Arizona on Dec. 29, 2019 – in that game they also fell behind 2-0 in the opening frame but rallied with four third-period goals to secure the win. This is the eighth time in franchise history that they have overcome a multi-goal deficit to win in consecutive games and just the third time since moving to Dallas (also Oct. 27-29, 2015 and Jan. 6-8, 2006).

* Four other teams have rallied from a multi-goal deficit to win in consecutive games this season: Hurricanes (Oct. 5-6, 2019), Coyotes (Oct. 25-28, 2019), Penguins (Nov. 7-9, 2019) and Islanders (Nov. 16-19, 2019). Overall, there have been 75 multi-goal comeback wins in 2019-20 – the fourth-highest total through 626 games of a season in NHL history.

* Dallas recorded the sixth multi-goal comeback win ever in an NHL outdoor game. It also was the seventh time a team overcame a third-period deficit (of any margin) to win outdoors.

* Continuing the comeback trend, this was the seventh time the Stars have won a game in which they trailed heading into the third period this season – the most among all clubs. The franchise mark for most wins in a season when trailing entering the third period was 12 set in 2005-06.

JOSI AMONG RARE PREDATORS COMPANY

Predators defenseman Roman Josi (0-2—2) extended his point streak to eight games (7-8—15 in 8 GP) – tied with Bruins forward David Pastrnak (3-10—13 in 8 GP) for the League’s longest active run. Washington’s John Carlson is the only blueliner to record a longer point streak this season (9 GP from Oct. 8-24, 2019). It was Josi’s 11th multi-point game of 2019-20 – only Carlson (16) has more among blueliners.

* Josi’s multi-point outing pushed his season point total to (14-27—41 in 39 GP). This marks just the fourth time in Predators history that a player has reached the 40-point mark prior to his 40th game of the season. The others: Steve Sullivan (37 GP in 2006-07 and 39 GP in 2005-06) and Paul Kariya (39 GP in 2006-07).

WINTER CLASSIC QUICK HITS

* Stars forward Denis Gurianov had an unsuccessful penalty shot attempt in the first period against Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne. It was the fourth penalty shot attempt in NHL outdoor game history – Derek Stepan is the only player to score on one (2014 Stadium Series w/ NYR).

* Cotton Bowl Stadium marked the southernmost NHL regular season outdoor game (32.78 degrees latitude), while Texas became the 12th U.S. state to host an outdoor game (also D.C.).

* The temperature at puck drop was 54.9ºF/12.7ºC, making it the warmest Winter Classic on record and the fourth-warmest outdoor game overall.

ICYMI: The NHL announced that the Wild will host the 2021 Winter Classic presented by Bridgestone at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn.

PREVIEW OF TODAY’S ACTION

CHARA, THORNTON AND MARLEAU TO PLAY INTO FOURTH DECADE

Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara and Sharks forwards Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are set to become the 12th, 13th and 14th players in NHL history to play at least one game in four or more different decades when their respective teams take to the ice on Thursday. Gordie Howe is the only player to play an NHL game in five different decades.

* At 42 years of age, Chara ranks second on the Bruins with 21:24 TOI/GP this season, including a season-high 27:50 in his last game on Dec. 31, 2019. It marked the only time since 2005-06 that a player has logged 27:00+ of ice time in a regular-season game at age 42 or older.

* At 40 years of age, Thornton has appeared in all 41 Sharks games this season and continues to climb multiple all-time lists – his assist in a 6-1 W vs. PHI on Dec. 28, 2019 tied Hall of Famer Adam Oates (1,079) for seventh on the NHL’s all-time assists list.

* In a testament to his durability and longevity, 40-year-old Marleau has skated in 825 consecutive regular-season season games dating back to April 9, 2009, which stands as the sixth-longest Ironman streak in NHL history.

DOMI SHOOTS FOR NHL’S LONGEST GOAL STREAK OF 2019-20

Canadiens forward Max Domi looks to extend his goal streak to seven games when Montreal hosts Tampa Bay at Bell Centre. Domi’s current career-high six-game goal streak (6-2—8 in 6 GP) is tied with Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (7-8—15 in 6 GP from Nov. 7-17, 2019) for the longest by any player this season.

* Only three Canadiens skaters in the last 50 years have recorded a seven-game goal streak with the franchise: Denis Savard (9 GP in 1990-91), Steve Shutt (7 GP in 1981-82) and Yvon Cournoyer (7 GP in 1971-72).
