SVECHNIKOV SHINES AGAIN AS HURRICANES’ OFFENSE IGNITES
The Hurricanes benefited from multi-point efforts by Sebastian Aho (2-1—3), Dougie Hamilton (0-3—3), Jaccob Slavin (0-3—3) and Andrei Svechnikov (1-1—2) to become the eighth different team to score at least seven goals in a game this season.

* Svechnikov opened Friday’s scoring with his sixth goal of the season after netting a lacrosse-style goal in his previous outing. The second-overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft recorded his third straight multi-point effort and seventh overall through 13 games in 2019-20.



* The 19-year-old forward, who scored the team's final goal on Oct. 26 vs. CHI, became the eighth player in Hurricanes/Whalers history to score four consecutive team goals. Ron Francis (5 from March 7-11, 2002) and Josef Vasicek (5 from Oct. 28 - Nov. 1, 2003) hold the longest such stretches for the franchise.

* Friday’s contest also marked the third time in franchise history that two defensemen each recorded three assists in the same game, with the other two instances also featuring a 7-3 result. Brad Shaw and Dave Babych accomplished the feat on Oct. 26, 1989 (at NJD), while Glen Wesley and Sean Hill did so Nov. 23, 2002 (at MTL).

* Aho registered his 13th career three-point game to boost his career totals to 88-188—206 in 255 GP. Set to celebrate his 23rd birthday July 26, 2020, he became the sixth player in Hurricanes/Whalers history to post 13 such performances before turning 23 – trailing only Francis (35), Sylvain Turgeon (24) and Eric Staal (17).

PERRON PROPELS BLUES ON HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT

On the night the Blues celebrated the NHL’s first Hockey Fights Cancer Night in the month of November, Brayden Schenn and Oskar Sundqvist scored 26 seconds apart to help St. Louis overcome a multi-goal deficit and set the stage for David Perron’s overtime winner.

* Perron (1-1—2), who also scored in overtime on Oct. 27 (at DET), scored eight seconds into Friday’s extra frame to establish a St. Louis franchise record for the fastest goal to begin an overtime period. Perron became just the second Blues player in team history to score two overtime goals in a span of three team games, joining Joe Mullen (Nov. 12 and Nov. 16, 1985).

* Schenn - 17-37—54 in 72 GP in 2018-19 - initiated the Blues’ comeback with his team-leading 10th goal of the season and has found the score sheet in 10 of 14 contests in 2019-20.

ISLANDERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO EIGHT GAMES

Derick Brassard (1-1—2) found the back of the net for the fourth-straight game to help the Islanders (9-3-0 in 12 GP) extend their win streak to eight games – the longest run by any team this season.

* Brassard, who signed a one-year contract with the Islanders on August 21, extended his goal streak to four contests (4-1—5 in 4 GP), the longest such run by a player in his first season with the team since Michael Grabner in 2010-11 (10-3—13 in 6 GP).

AROUND THE RINKS:

* Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon extended his season-opening point streak to 13 games (8-10—18) and posted the ninth instance in NHL history of a player accomplishing the feat at age 24 or younger.

* Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 51 shots to backstop the Jets to their second win in three contests and establish a team record for most in a game by a Winnipeg netminder. Only two goaltenders in Jets/Thrashers history have recorded a higher such total: Milan Hnilicka (53 on Dec. 18, 2001) and Chris Mason (52 on Nov. 3, 2010).

McDAVID, CROSBY SET TO SQUARE OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2019-20

Oilers captain Connor McDavid (6-17—23) and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (5-12—17) are expected to skate in their seventh all-time meeting Saturday when Edmonton travels to PPG Paints Arena.

* Crosby is one of eight former first-overall picks that McDavid has posted at least 10 points against in head-to-head meetings. The most the Oilers captain has registered against another former first-overall pick is 15, against 1997 selection Joe Thornton (6-9—15 in 12 GP) and 2006 selection Erik Johnson (7-8—15 in 10 GP).

* While McDavid has had the edge on the scoresheet in head-to-head competition against Crosby, the Penguins have won all six contests (6-0-0).

PASTRNAK, MARCHAND, BRUINS LOOK TO CONTINUE EARLY-SEASON SUCCESS

David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand and the Bruins aim to build on their season-opening success at TD Garden when they host the Senators on Saturday.

* The Bruins, who have recorded at least a point in each of their first six home games this season (5-0-1), enter Saturday’s contest with eight straight regular-season wins against the Senators dating to Dec. 27, 2017 (OTT: 0-7-1) - tied for their second-longest win streak against the Senators (17-0-0 run from Oct. 12, 1992 to Nov. 9, 1995).

* Pastrnak (12-12—24 in 12 GP) concluded October with four games of at least three points,
including a five-point performance on Oct. 27, to finish the month with an NHL-best 2.00 points-per-game. The 23-year-old forward is one of five players since 1996-97 to conclude any month of October with 2.00 points-per-game and first since Eric Staal (2.08 w/ CAR in 2005) and Peter Forsberg (2.08 w/ PHI in 2005).

* Marchand has collected at least one point in each of his last 11 contests (7-14—21) en route to posting the longest point streak of his career. The last player to record his first point streak of 12 or more games at age of 31 or older was Patrick Sharp in 2015-16 (12 GP w/ DAL).
