THREE HARD LAPS

* David Pastrnak and John Carlson concluded their historic Octobers ranking first and second in League scoring, respectively.

* Andrei Svechnikov scored a highlight-reel lacrosse-style goal reminiscent of the famous marker by University of Michigan forward Mike Legg on March 24, 1996.

* Auston Matthews (San Ramon, Calif.), Alex Ovechkin (Moscow, Russia) and Leon Draisaitl (Cologne, Germany) became the third, fourth and fifth players to reach the 10-goal mark this season, joining Pastrnak (Havirov, Czech Republic) and James Neal (Whitby, Ont.). Each of the first five 10-goal scorers in 2019-20 hail from a different birth country.

PASTRNAK, CARLSON CONCLUDE HISTORIC OCTOBERS
Boston forward David Pastrnak (12-12—24 in 12 GP) and Washington defenseman John Carlson (7-16—23 in 14 GP), who rank first and second in NHL points this season, respectively, each found the score sheet Tuesday to conclude historic Octobers as the Bruins (9-1-2, 20 points) and Capitals (9-2-3, 21 points) contested their final games of the month.

* Pastrnak (1-0—1) scored his League-leading 12th goal of the season to extend his point streak to double digits (12-12—24 in 10 GP), his fourth career run of at least 10 games. He became the third player in franchise history to score 12 or more goals in a single month of October, joining Phil Esposito in 1973 (14-10—24 in 10 GP) and Charlie Simmer in 1985 (12-7—19 in 10 GP); Pastrnak also matched Esposito for the single-season franchise record for points in October.

* Pastrnak, 23, became the sixth player to debut in the last 30 years with four or more point streaks of at least 10 games before age 24.

* Carlson (2-0—2), meanwhile, recorded his 22nd and 23rd points of the season to establish a franchise record for most by a defenseman in any calendar month, eclipsing the previous high of 22 set by Sergei Gonchar in January 2000 (10-12—22 in 14 GP). Only one blueliner in NHL history has recorded more points than Carlson in a single month of October: Calgary’s Al MacInnis in 1990 (8-17—25 in 13 GP).

* Carlson matched the franchise record for most points by any Capitals skater in a single month of October, a mark set by Alex Ovechkin in 2009 (14-9—23 in 13 GP).

* Carlson registered his 425th and 426th career regular-season points (97-329—426 in 702 GP) to tie Kevin Hatcher (149-277—426 in 685 GP) for third place on the franchise’s all-time list among defensemen.

MUST SEE: SVECHNIKOV SCORES LACROSSE-STYLE GOAL
Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov (2-0—2) scored a highlight-reel lacrosse-style goal from behind the Calgary net, rivaling Blake Coleman’s one-handed falling tally from Oct. 4 and Sonny Milano’s through-the-legs marker from Oct. 16 as an early goal of the year candidate.

OVECHKIN PASSES ROBITAILLE FOR MOST GOALS IN NHL HISTORY BY A LEFT WING
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin (2-2—4) scored his 668th and 669th career regular-season goals to leapfrog Luc Robitaille (668) for the most in League history among players listed as a left wing and for 12th place on the NHL’s all-time list overall.

* Ovechkin’s second marker Tuesday was his NHL-record 23rd career regular-season overtime goal. He collected his 35th career regular-season overtime point (23-12—35) to tie Jaromir Jagr (19-16—35) for second place on the League’s all-time list, trailing Patrik Elias (16-21—37).

* Ovechkin recorded his 135th career multi-goal game in the regular season to match Mike Gartner for the seventh-most in NHL history, four back of Marcel Dionne (139) for sixth place.

CROSBY RECORDS 100TH, 101ST AND 102ND CAREER POINTS VERSUS FLYERS
Sidney Crosby, Dominik Kahun and Dominik Simon each recorded 1-2—3 as the Penguins erupted for seven goals for a fourth time this season and defeated their intrastate rivals. Crosby boosted his career regular-season totals versus the Flyers to 42-60—102 (68 GP) and has now collected 100 or more points against two NHL franchises; he also has 36-77—113 (66 GP) versus the Islanders.

* Crosby became the second player in franchise history to register 100 or more career regular-season points against multiple NHL franchises, joining Mario Lemieux – who reached the mark versus five different clubs, including Philadelphia. Lemieux is the League’s all-time leader in points against the Flyers, with Crosby now owning the fourth-highest such total in NHL history.

* Crosby recorded the 1,231st, 1,232nd and 1,233rd regular-season points of his NHL career overall (451-782—1,233 in 956 GP) and leapfrogged Phil Housley (338-894—1,232 in 1,495 GP) for sole possession of 39th place on the League’s all-time list.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Penguins became the first NHL team to score at least seven goals in four or more games during a single month of October since 1992, when they accomplished the feat (4 GP). The highest such total in League history is six games, a mark set by Edmonton in 1984 en route to capturing its second of five Stanley Cup championships in a seven-year span.

OTHER NOTABLE STORYLINES FROM TUESDAY
* Rookie Josh Mahura assisted on three of Anaheim’s season-high seven goals in a span of 2:52 to help the Ducks improve to 5-1-0 at Honda Center this season. Mahura became the first rookie to record three assists in a span of three minutes or less in a single period since Whalers defenseman Todd Richards on March 31, 1991 (7-3 L at BOS).

* The Capitals, who contest their next game on Nov. 1, concluded the month of October with a 7-1-1 record as visitors. Washington became the second team in NHL history to record seven road wins in a single month of October, joining New Jersey in 2009 (7-0-0).

* The Bruins extended their point streak to eight games (6-0-2), including wins in each of their last four outings. Boston also has yet to suffer a regulation loss at TD Garden in 2019-20 (5-0-1) and earned points in each of its first six or more home games in a season for the second time in the last 33 years (also 5-0-2 in 2001-02).

* Another skater who has played a pivotal role in the Bruins’ success has been Brad Marchand (0-1—1) – who extended his career-high point streak to 11 games (7-14—21), including notching at least one assist in each of his last 10 outings. Marchand and David Pastrnak became the first set of Boston teammates with a simultaneous point streak of at least 10 games since March 11 – April 4, 1993, when Adam Oates (9-30—39 in 21 GP) and Ray Bourque (5-15—20 in 13 GP) each had double-digit runs which overlapped for 13 contests.

* Pekka Rinne (20 saves) recorded his second straight shutout (also Oct. 24 vs. MIN) and Nick Bonino scored all three Nashville goals as the Predators extended their win streak to four games. Bonino scored the third hat trick of his NHL career and became the sixth different player in franchise history to score a natural hat trick, a feat last achieved by Filip Forsberg on Feb. 23, 2017 (3-0—3 vs. COL).

* Rinne (7-0-1) and Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask (6-0-1) extended their season-opening point streaks to eight and seven games, respectively. The former matched the Nashville record for longest season-opening point streak set by Tomas Vokoun in 2005-06 (7-0-1), while the latter became the first Boston goaltender to earn points through each of his first seven appearances in a campaign since Tim Thomas in 2010-11 (7-0-0).

* Alexander Radulov (3-1—4) scored three of the Stars’ six unanswered goals as Dallas overcame a 3-0 deficit to stun Minnesota. The Stars, who rallied from a three-goal deficit to win a game for the first time since Oct. 13, 2018 (5-3 W vs. ANA), improved to 4-1-0 in their last five contests on the heels of a 1-7-1 start to the season.

* Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler (1-1—2) scored his 61st career regular-season goal to pass Scott Niedermayer (60) for the most by a blueliner in franchise history.

* Oilers captain Connor McDavid collected an assist while skating in the 300th regular-season game of his NHL career. His 394 career points (134-260—394) are the 11th-most in League history by a player through their 300th career regular-season game.
