HOCKEY WORLD MOURNS THE PASSING OF TED LINDSAY

Hockey Hall of Fame legend and four-time Stanley Cup champion Ted Lindsaypassed away Monday at the age of 93. Known as one of hockey’s fiercest competitors, Lindsay amassed 851 points (379-472—851 in 1,068 GP) and 1,808 penalty minutes during his 17-season career with the Red Wings (862 GP) and Blackhawks (206 GP).

Lindsay will also be remembered for his off-ice contributions as an instrumental figure in the formation of the National Hockey League Players’ Association. In 2010, NHL players renamed their annual award for the most outstanding player in his honor.

THREE HARD LAPS: QUICK HITS FROM MONDAY

* Mitch Marner collected his 10th point in four games en route to recording the fastest instance of Maple Leafs player reaching the 80-point mark since Doug Gilmour in 1993-94 (58 GP).

* Leon Draisaitl played a pivotal role in an Oilers multi-goal comeback while extending the League’s longest active point streak to 11 contests.

* The Bruins, who are 12-0-4 in their last 16 contests, host the Hurricanes at TD Garden Tuesday. Carolina meanwhile, enters the matchup with wins in each of its last five outings.

MARNER RECORDS 80TH POINT IN MAPLE LEAFS 20TH ROAD VICTORY
Tyler Ennis (3-0—3) recorded his first career hat trick and Mitch Marner (1-2—3) eclipsed the 80-point mark as the Maple Leafs (41-21-4, 86 points) earned their 20th road win of the season (20-9-3, 43 points).

* Marner (24-57—81), who became the first Maple Leafs player to reach the 80-point mark in a season since Phil Kessel in 2013-14 (37-43—80 in 82 GP), accomplished the feat while skating in his 66th contest of 2018-19. The last Toronto skater to reach the benchmark in fewer personal games was Doug Gilmour in 1993-94 (58 GP), en route to recording the third-highest single-season point total in franchise history.

* Toronto, which captured a victory in the first outing of a three-game road trip through Western Canada, required the fewest contests in franchise history to record both 20 home wins and 20 road wins (66 GP), besting the previous low of 74 GP in 1977-78 and 1998-99.

* After completing 2017-18 with 20 road victories (20-16-5, 45 points), the Maple Leafs sit three such wins shy of matching the highest single-season total in franchise history (23-10-8 in 2003-04).

DRAISAITL, McDAVID LEAD OILERS IN MULTI-GOAL COMEBACK WIN
Leon Draisaitl (1-1—2) and Connor McDavid (0-2—2) each posted multi-point outings as the Oilers (29-30-7, 65 points) overcame a two-goal deficit and moved within six points of the idle Wild (32-27-7, 71 points) for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

* The Oilers duo, who have each collected 34 points (McDavid: 12-22—34 and Draisaitl: 20-14—34) in the calendar year, helped their club earn their third multi-goal comeback win of 2018-19. Their provincial rivals pace all clubs with eight such victories this season (CGY: 8-2-1).

* Draisaitl (41-42—83) opened the scoring in the first period to extend the League’s longest active point streak to 11 contests, matching an equal run from March 14 - April 4, 2017 (5-14—19) for the longest of his career. Additionally, the 2018-19 campaign is the 14th in NHL history to feature at least 16 different players each record a point streak of 11+ games. The 1993-94 season (17) was the last to feature more such performances.

* Edmonton’s leading goal scorer, fresh off recording his first career 80-point season Saturday, found the back of the back for the 17th time in his last 18 contests. Only four other Oilers players since 1990-91 have scored as many goals in an 18-game span: McDavid (18 in 2017-18), Alexander Selivanov (17 in 1999-00), Vincent Damphousse (17 in 1991-92) and Petr Klima (17 in 1990-91).

BRUINS LOOK TO EXTEND OVERALL POINT, HOME WIN STREAKS

The Bruins (39-17-9, 87 points), who are 12-0-4 in their last 16 contests dating to Jan. 29 and 7-0-0 in their last seven home games dating to Feb. 5, look to extend their streaks when they host the surging Hurricanes (36-23-6, 78 points) at TD Garden.

* Boston, which has not suffered a regulation loss since Jan. 19 (3-2 L vs. NYR), can earn at least one point in 17 or more consecutive games for the seventh time in franchise history and second in as many seasons (also 14-0-4 from Dec. 16, 2017 – Jan. 25, 2018). The longest such run in franchise history is 23 games, a mark set from Dec. 22, 1940 – Feb. 23, 1941 (15-0-8).

* Brad Marchand (9-14—23 in 12 GP) and Patrice Bergeron (6-11—17 in 12 GP) have both collected at least one point in each of the Bruins’ last 12 home games dating to Jan. 14. Bergeron was the last Bruins player to record at least one point in 13 or more consecutive home games, doing so from Nov. 2 – Dec. 23, 2006 (7-12—19 in 15 GP) and again from Oct. 10 – Dec. 16, 2015 (5-13—18 in 15 GP).

* Carolina, meanwhile, can extend its win streak to six games with a victory on Tuesday. The Hurricanes, who occupy third place in the Metropolitan Division standings, can record a win streak of six or more contests for the sixth time in franchise history and first time since a seven-game run from Feb. 5 – March 4, 2010.

* Sebastian Aho has scored the game-winning goal in a franchise-record three consecutive contests dating to Feb. 26. He can become the third player in NHL history to the score the winning goal in four consecutive games, joining Montreal’s Newsy Lalonde from Feb. 12-26, 1921 (5 GP) and Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson from Jan. 9-16, 2007 (4 GP).

COYOTES AIM TO EXTEND WIN STREAK TO SEVEN GAMES

The Coyotes (32-28-5, 69 points) aim to extend their win streak to seven games when they host the Ducks (25-32-9, 59 points) at Gila River Arena. Arizona owns the longest active win streak in the NHL and sits two points back of Minnesota (32-27-7, 71 points), which occupies the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference standings.

* The Coyotes can record a win streak of at least seven contests for the 10th time in franchise history and first since an eight-game run from Feb. 5-22, 2011.
