NHL MORNING SKATE

WESTERN CONFERENCE-LEADING FLAMES REACH 40-WIN MARK
Johnny Gaudreau
(0-1—1) and Elias Lindholm (0-2—2) each found the score sheet to reach the 80- and 70-point marks this season, respectively, and help the Western Conference-leading Flames (40-16-7, 87 points) reach the 40-win mark.

* The Flames, who extended their win streak to six contests, required 63 or fewer games to record 40 victories in a season for the second time in franchise history and first since 1988-89 (59 GP). Calgary also required the fewest games to record 20 home wins (20-5-5) and 20 road wins (20-11-5) in a season, eclipsing the previous low of 71 set in 1987-88.

* Gaudreau (30-50—80 in 63 GP) reached the 80-point mark for the second time in as many seasons (also 24-60—84 in 2017-18). He became the 11th player in franchise history to record 80 or more points in consecutive seasons and first since Jarome Iginla did so in three straight from 2006-07 to 2008-09.

* Lindholm, who was acquired by the Flames on June 23, 2018, boosted his career high totals to 25-46—71 (63 GP) this season. He became the sixth Flames player to record at least 70 points while skating in his first season with the franchise, joining Sergei Makarov in 1989-90 (24-62—86 in 80 GP), Doug Gilmour in 1989-90 (26-59—85 in 72 GP), Michael Cammalleri in 2008-09 (39-43—82 in 81 GP), Alex Tanguay in 2006-07 (22-59—81 in 81 GP) and Mel Bridgman in 1981-82 (26-49—75 in 63 GP).

CAREER NIGHTS FOR DOMI, SHAW POWER CANADIENS’ EIGHT-GOAL OUTBURST
Max Domi (2-3—5) established a single-game career high with five points and Andrew Shaw scored the first hat trick of his NHL career as the Canadiens erupted for eight goals to defeat the Red Wings. Montreal improved to 34-23-7 (75 points) this season and occupies the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

* The Canadiens scored a season-high eight goals, eclipsing their previous mark of seven from Oct. 15, 2018 (7-3 W) – also against the Red Wings. Montreal scored seven or more goals against Detroit multiple times in a season for the first time since 1974-75 (7-1 W on Dec. 27, 1974 and 8-5 W on Feb. 5, 1975).

* Domi, who was acquired by the Canadiens on June 15, 2018, leads the team in scoring this season (20-34—54 in 63 GP). He can become the eighth Canadiens player to conclude a campaign leading the team in points while skating in his first season with the franchise and first since Yanic Perreault in 2001-02 (27-29—56 in 82 GP).

BINNINGTON RECORDS FIFTH SHUTOUT AS BLUES END MONTH WITH 12-1-1 RECORD
Jordan Binnington
turned aside all 19 shots he faced to help the Blues conclude February with a 12-1-1 record and match a franchise record for most wins in a calendar month. St. Louis improved to 34-23-6 (74 points) overall this season and occupies third place in the Central Division standings.

* Binnington improved to 15-2-1 since making the first start of his NHL career on Jan. 7 (1.49 GAA, .942 SV%, 5 SO), including five shutouts and a 7-0-0 mark at Enterprise Center. He established a single-season franchise record for most shutouts by a rookie goaltender and became the second first-year netminder in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to record at least five such performances through his first 18 career regular-season starts, joining Hockey Hall of Fame member Jacques Plante (5 SO from Nov. 1, 1952 – March 17, 1954).

BRUINS EXTEND POINT STREAK TO 14 CONTESTS

Brad Marchand (1-2—3) recorded his ninth game with at least three points this season to help the Bruins improve to 10-0-4 in their last 14 contests dating to Jan. 29 (10-0-4). Boston improved to 37-17-9 (83 points) this season and occupies second place in the Atlantic Division standings, three points up on Toronto (38-20-4, 80 points).

* Boston will contest one more game this month (Feb. 28 vs. TBL). The Bruins have concluded a calendar month without a regulation loss (min. 8 GP) on eight prior occasions in franchise history and just twice in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44), doing so in January 1969 (10-0-4) and again in November 2011 (12-0-1).

* Marchand scored the 25th shorthanded goal of his NHL career (all w/ BOS) and tied Rick Middleton for the most in franchise history (since 1933-34). His 25 shorthanded goals are the most among all players since beginning his NHL career in 2009-10, six more than the next-closest skater in that span (Michael Grabner: 19).

WILD STAGE LATE RALLY TO DEFEAT JETS

Facing a 2-1 deficit in the final two minutes of regulation, Jason Zucker and Joel Eriksson Ek each scored in a span of 26 seconds to power the Wild to their fourth consecutive win. Minnesota improved to 31-27-6 (68 points) this season and moved past Dallas (31-27-5, 67 points) for the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference standings.

* The Wild overcame a deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to win a regular-season gamein regulation for the first time in franchise history. The only teams to accomplish the feat last season were the Predators on Oct. 10, 2017 (6-5 W vs. PHI) and the Golden Knights on Jan. 30, 2018 (4-2 W at CGY).

* Ryan Donato collected two assists and has found the score sheet in all four games since being acquired by the Wild on Feb. 20 (1-5—6). He became the third player in franchise history to record at least one point in each of his first four or more games with the Wild, joining Pavol Demitra from Oct. 5-18, 2006 (1-7—8 in 6 GP) and Zach Parise from Jan. 19-27, 2013 (5-4—9 in 5 GP).

FLEURY BECOMES FIRST GOALTENDER TO 30 WINS

Marc-Andre Fleury recorded 23 saves to become the first goaltender to reach 30 wins in 2018-19, marking the second time in his career that he has been the first netminder to the as many victories.

* Fleury reached the 30-win mark on the season for the ninth time in his career to become the fifth goaltender in NHL history to record nine or more campaigns with at least 30 wins. The three-time Stanley Cup Champion trails only Hall of Famers Martin Brodeur (14) and Patrick Roy (13) as well as Henrik Lundqvist (11) - the only other active goaltender with at least nine such seasons.

* Fleury moved within four victories of passing Jacques Plante (437) for eight place on the NHL all-time wins list. Fleury is chasing a list that includes two other active goaltenders who are within the top six: Roberto Luongo (485; 3rd place) and Henrik Lundqvist (448; 6th place).

AROUND THE RINKS

Other highlights from Tuesday’s 11-game slate:

* Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle skated in his 777th consecutive regular-season game dating to March 26, 2009 and passed Craig Ramsay (776 GP from March 27, 1973 – Feb. 10 1983) for sole possession of the the fifth-longest “Ironman” streak in NHL history.

* Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho scored to reach the 70-point mark for the first time in his NHL career (25-45—70 in 63 GP). Aho (born July 26, 1997) became the sixth different player in Hurricanes/Whalers franchise history to record 70 or more points in a season prior to celebrating his 22nd birthday and first since Eric Staal in 2005-06 (45-55—100 in 82 GP)

* Oscar Lindberg, who was acquired by the Senators on Monday prior to the 2019 NHL Trade Deadline, scored at 3:16 of the first period in his team debut. He established a franchise record for fastest goal by a Senators player in their team debut (regular season and/or playoffs), eclipsing the previous mark of 5:20 set by Andreas Dackell on Oct. 5, 1996 (3-3 T at MTL).

KANE AIMS TO EXTEND ROAD POINT STREAK TO 19 GAMES

Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, who has collected at least one point in each of his last 18 road games dating to Nov. 24, 2018 (13-21—34), aims to extend his streak to 19 games when the Blackhawks (26-28-9, 61 points) visit the Ducks (24-30-9, 57 points) at Honda Center.

* Kane can become the sixth different player in NHL history to record at least one point in 19 or more consecutive team road games and first since 1989-90, when two skaters accomplished the feat: Pat LaFontaine from Nov. 18, 1989 – Feb. 22, 1990 (18-25—43 in 22 GP) and Mario Lemieux from Nov. 4, 1989 – Feb. 11, 1990 (19-25—44 in 21 GP).
