ROLLERCOASTER SEASON CONTINUES
A night after the Flyers staged a dramatic multi-goal comeback to win the 2019 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series and the Maple Leafs overcame a three-goal deficit to win a regular-season game against the Canadiens for the first time since 1969, Sunday saw three instances of a team rallying from a multi-goal deficit to either tie the score or win the game.

* The Sharks rallied from a multi-goal deficit to defeat the Red Wings. There have been 110 multi-goal comeback wins this season, the most-ever in a campaign through games played Feb. 24 and second-most in a season through 961 contests behind only 1985-86 (123). San Jose accomplished the feat for the fourth time this season, while Calgary paces the League with eight such victories.

* The Rangers twice evened the score after trailing by two goals before falling to the Capitals. It marked the fourth time this season a team has overcome a multi-goal deficit to tie the score on multiple occasions in the same game, joining the Blackhawks (5-4 OTW on Nov. 24), Lightning (6-5 SOW on Dec. 4) and Sabres (6-5 OTL on Feb. 7). New York accomplished the feat for the 15th time in franchise history, with only three of them coming in the last 25 years (also Dec. 11, 2015 and Feb.16, 2015).

* The Blackhawks trailed 3-0 against the Stars before rallying with three straight tallies to even the score in an eventual 4-3 loss. There have been 208 instances of a club rallying from a multi-goal deficit to tie the score in 2018-19. Only two campaigns in NHL history have featured more such instances through games played on Feb. 24: 1987-88 (215) and 1981-82 (210).

CAPITALS OUTLAST RANGERS IN BACK-AND-FORTH AFFAIR
After trading five goals in the third period, including a game-tying goal from Rangers defenseman Brady Skjei (2-0—2) with 31 seconds remaining in regulation, Evgeny Kuznetsov found the back of the net with 40 seconds remaining in the extra frame to lift the Capitals (35-21-7, 77 points) to within two points of the idle Islanders (36-18-7, 79 points) atop the Metropolitan Division.

* Alex Ovechkin, who entered the contest with goals in each of his previous five contests, collected an assist on Kuznetsov's game-winning goal to boost his regular-season overtime statistics to 22-12—34. Only two players in NHL history have collected more overtime points: Patrik Elias (16-21—37) and Jaromir Jagr (19-16—35).

* John Carlson (9-47—56) also registered an assist in Sunday’s game and now sits three helpers shy of his second straight 50-assist campaign. Only two blueliners in Capitals franchise history have recorded consecutive 50-assist seasons: Scott Stevens (1986-89) and Larry Murphy (1986-88).

* The Rangers’ five-goal outing was highlighted by an opening-minute marker in the first and third periods. With each tally coming 21 seconds into the frame, Sunday marked the second time in franchise history in which the club registered a goal in the opening 21 seconds of multiple periods.They first accomplished the feat on March 15, 1989 vs WIN.

PAVELSKI, BURNS LEAD SHARKS IN MULTI-GOAL COMEBACK

Joe Pavelski (3-0—3) netted his fifth career hat trick and Brent Burns (1-1—2) reached the 70-point mark as the Sharks (37-18-8, 82 points) overcame a two-goal deficit to win and keep pace with the Western Conference-leading Flames (39-16-7, 85 points), who also won on Sunday.

* Pavelski recorded the 71st hat trick of the 2018-19 campaign (961 GP) and the sixth such performance by a Sharks player this season, joining the Penguins and Jets for the most among all 31 clubs. The Sharks captain joined Tomas Hertl (2x), Kevin Labanc, Joe Thornton and Logan Couture as the fifth different San Jose player to record a three-goal performance in 2018-19.

* Burns (13-57—70 in 63 GP), who required the fewest games by a defenseman in Sharks franchise history to record his 70th point, posted the ninth such instance since 1990-91 in which a blueliner has reached the benchmark prior to their 65th team game.

COYOTES RETIRE DOAN’S NUMBER 19
Former Coyotes captain Shane Doanhad his No. 19 raised to the rafters of Gila River Arena, the first player to have his number retired by the team since it moved to Arizona in 1996-97.

* Doan collected 402-570—972 across 21 NHL seasons and is the Coyotes/Jets’ all-time franchise leader in regular-season goals, assists, points and games played. Doan is also one of 10 players in NHL history to appear in at least one game (regular season and/or playoffs) in 21 or more different seasons with one franchise.

LIGHTNING’S HISTORIC SEASON APPROACHES ANOTHER BENCHMARK
Fresh off registering his 100th point of the season on Feb. 21, Nikita Kucherov (30-70—100 in 62) leads the Lightning (47-11-4, 98 points) into Monday’s action with the team’s sights set on their ninth straight win and 100th point of 2018-19. Tampa Bay can become just the fourth team in NHL history to reach the 100-point mark in 63 games or fewer. The others: Montreal (62 GP in 1976-77 and 1977-78) and Boston (63 GP in 1971-72).

* Tampa Bay, which suffered its last regulation loss on Jan. 30 at PIT, has collected at least one point in each of its last 12 contests (10-0-2). With three games remaining in February, the Lightning can complete their second full calendar month of the season without a regulation loss (also 13-0-1 in Dec. 2018).

* Only three teams in NHL history have recorded two months without a regulation loss in a single season (min. 8 GP in the month): the 1940-41 Bruins^ (6-0-4 in Jan. and 6-0-2 in March), 1944-45 Canadiens (7-0-1 in Dec. and 7-0-2 in Feb.) and 1979-80 Flyers (11-0-2 in Nov. and 7-0-7 in Dec.).

MATTHEWS, EICHEL SET THEIR SIGHTS ON FRANCHISE MILESTONES
Auston Matthews (29-28—57 in 47 GP) and the Maple Leafs (37-20-4, 78 points) welcome Jack Eichel (19-47—66 in 58 GP) and the Sabres (29-24-8, 66 points) to Scotiabank Arena Monday in an Atlantic Division clash.

* Matthews is one tally shy of reaching the 30-goal mark for the third time in as many NHL seasons. Among players to debut with Toronto, he can become the first to score 30 or more goals in each of his first three NHL seasons.

* Eichel sits one marker shy of his fourth consecutive 20-goal campaign. Among players to debut with Buffalo, the Sabres leading scorer can joinRichard Martin (1971-75) and Thomas Vanek (2005-09) as the only players in franchise history to begin their NHL career with four consecutive 20-goal seasons.
