SUPER BOWL SUNDAY QUICK HITS

* The Canadiens, Bruins and Flames each secured wins on Super Bowl Sunday. Montreal (20-11-3, 43 points) has earned 20 all-time wins in games taking place on Super Bowl Sunday, the most in NHL history.

* Sunday marked the ninth instance of an NHL team winning a game on the same day an NFL team based in the same city (or within close geographic proximity) captured the Super Bowl. Boston and New England accomplished the feat for a third time on Sunday (also Feb. 2, 2002 and Feb. 1, 2004).

RASK PASSES THOMPSON FOR MOST WINS IN BRUINS HISTORY

Tuukka Rask turned aside all 24 shots he faced to backstop the Bruins to their first win against the Capitals since March 29, 2014 (4-2 W), snapping a 14-game slide (0-11-3). Boston improved to 28-17-7 (63 points) this season and occupies the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

* Rask, who improved to 7-0-2 in his last 10 appearances dating to Dec. 29, 2018 (1.70 GAA, .942 SV%, 2 SO), earned the 253rd regular-season win of his NHL career (all w/ BOS) and passed Tiny Thompson (252) for the most in franchise history. He became the second active goaltender to become the all-time regular-season wins leader with an Original Six franchise, joining Henrik Lundqvist (447 w/ NYR).

HATHAWAY SCORES FLAMES’ LEAGUE-LEADING 16TH SHORTHANDED GOAL

Garnet Hathaway scored his second shorthanded goal of the season to help the Western Conference-leading Flames (34-14-5, 73 points) improve to 12-2-2 in their last 16 games dating to Dec. 27, 2018. Hathaway recorded the Flames’ League-leading 16th shorthanded goal of 2018-19 overall, tied for the fourth-most in a season in franchise history.

* Elias Lindholm scored against his former team to extend his point streak to 10 games (3-9—12), matching his career high set from March 9-25, 2017 (4-7—11). Lindholm, who was acquired by the Flames on June 23, 2018, became the third player to record a point streak of at least 10 gameswhile skating in his first season with the franchise, joining Doug Gilmour from Nov. 15 – Dec. 8, 1988 (4-11—15 in 11 GP) and Marc Savard from Feb. 14 – March 5, 2000 (6-8—14 in 10 GP).

* David Rittich (34 saves) improved to 9-0-3 in his last 12 appearances dating to Dec. 20, 2018 (2.87 GAA, .908 SV%, 0 SO). Only two goaltenders in franchise history have recorded a longer personal point streak: Mike Vernon from Jan. 11 – Feb. 27, 1989 (12-0-1) and Brian Elliott from Feb. 15 – March 19, 2017 (12-0-1).

CANADIENS RALLY PAST OILERS, IMPROVE TO 6-1-1 IN LAST EIGHT GAMES

Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied the game with 6:25 remaining in regulation and Jonathan Drouin (1-1—2) scored 58 seconds into overtime as theCanadiens improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight games dating to Jan. 12. Montreal improved to 29-18-6 (64 points) overall this season and occupies third place in the Atlantic Division standings, one point back of Toronto (31-17-3, 65 points).

* Kotkaniemi (8-17—25 in 53 GP) became the second 18-year-old to record 25 points this season, joining Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (5-23—28 in 51 GP). The 2018-19 season was the 14th in NHL history to feature multiple 18-year-olds each with 25 or more points and first since 2014-15, when Aaron Ekblad (7-22—29 in 50 GP) and David Pastrnak (10-17—27 in 47 GP) had reached the plateau prior to celebrating their 19th birthdays.

* The most 18-year-olds to reach the 25-point mark in a season is five, which occurred in 1981-82 (Dale Hawerchuk, Bobby Carpenter, Ron Francis, Jim Benning and Doug Smith) and 1983-84 (Steve Yzerman, Dan Quinn, Sylvain Turgeon, Brian Lawton and Cam Neely).
