KARLSSON EXTENDS RUN AS SHARKS SNAP LIGHTNING STREAKS

Erik Karlsson registered two assists to help the Sharks snap the League-leading Lightning’s win and point streaks at seven and 16 games (15-0-1), respectively. San Jose became the first team to defeat Tampa Bay in regulation since Anaheim did so on Nov. 27 (3-1 W).

* Karlsson has collected at least one assist/point in each of his last 12 appearances dating to Dec. 7 (1-18—19). He matched the franchise record for most consecutive personal appearances with at least one point, a mark set by Rob Gaudreau from Dec. 3-29, 1992 (14-5—19 in 12 GP) and equaled by Jonathan Cheechoo from Dec. 26, 2005 – Jan. 24, 2006 (10-9—19 in 12 GP).

* Karlsson became the 21st differentdefenseman in NHL history to record at least one point in 12 or more consecutive appearances and just the third to do so in the last 20 years (since 1998-99), joining Detroit’s Mathieu Schneider from Nov. 27 – Dec. 22, 2006 (2-13—15 in 12 GP) and Philadelphia’s Shayne Gostisbehere from Jan. 19 – Feb. 20, 2016 (5-13—18 in 15 GP).

HUTCHINSON, MAPLE LEAFS BLANK CANUCKS

In his second career appearance with Toronto, Michael Hutchinson turned aside all 28 shots he faced to help the Maple Leafs blank the Canucks. Toronto (27-12-2, 56 points) occupies second place in the Atlantic Division standings, 10 points back of Tampa Bay (32-8-2, 66 points).

* Hutchinson, who was acquired by Toronto on Dec. 29, recorded the fourth shutout of his NHL career and first since Oct. 28, 2016 (w/ WPG). He became the 11th goaltender in franchise history to record at least one shutout within his first two career appearances with the team (NHL debut or otherwise) and first since Garret Sparks on Nov. 30, 2015 (3-0 W vs. EDM).

* Auston Matthews (1-2—3) reached the 20-goal mark for the third time in as many NHL seasons (20-19—39 in 27 GP). He became the firstMaple Leafs player to require 27 or fewer personal games to reach the 20-goal mark in a season since 1993-94, when Wendel Clark (20 GP) and Dave Andreychuk (27 GP) accomplished the feat.

* Patrick Marleau skated in the 1,616th regular-season game of his NHL career and passed Larry Murphy (1,615) for sole possession of ninth place on the League’s all-time list.

Twenty-five players have reached the 20-goal mark this season, including three on Saturday (Mike Hoffman, Auston Matthews and Mark Stone). The last campaign to feature as many 20-goal scorers through the first 644 games was 1996-97, when 30 players had reached the plateau.

QUICK, KOPITAR REACH MILESTONES IN KINGS VICTORY

Jonathan Quick (16 saves) and Anze Kopitar recorded their 300th career regular-season win and goal, respectively, as the Kings blanked the Oilers.

* Quick (Milford, Conn.) became the fifth U.S.-born goaltender in NHL history to reach the 300-win milestone (36th overall), joining Ryan Miller(374), John Vanbiesbrouck (374), Tom Barrasso (369) and Mike Richter (301).

* Kopitar, meanwhile, became the fifth player in franchise history to score 300 career goals with the Kings, joining Luc Robitaille (557), Marcel Dionne (550), Dave Taylor (431) and Bernie Nicholls (327).

ISLANDERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO SIX GAMES

The Islanders scored four consecutive goals to erase a 2-0 deficit and pick up their sixth consecutive win. New York improved to 23-13-4 (50 points) this season and surpassed Montreal (22-15-5, 49 points) and Buffalo (22-14-6, 50 points) for the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

* Robin Lehner (29 saves) improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven appearances dating to Dec. 18 (1.22 GAA, .959 SV%, 1 SO). He became the fourth different goaltender in franchise history to record a personal win streak of at least seven games and first since Jaroslav Halak from Dec. 13, 2014 – Jan. 2, 2015 (7-0-0).

WESTERN CONFERENCE-LEADING FLAMES RALLY PAST FLYERS

Matthew Tkachuk (1-1—2) scored the tying goal with 4:17 remaining in regulation and TJ Brodie potted the overtime winner as the Western Conference-leading Flames improved to 26-13-4 (56 points) this season, two points ahead of the idle Golden Knights (25-15-4, 54 points). Calgary rallied from a third-period deficit to win a game for the eighth time this season, tied with Montreal and Buffalo for the most such victories in 2018-19.

* Tkachuk boosted his 2018-19 totals to 19-30—49 (43 GP) and matched his single-season career high for points, a mark he set in 2017-18 (24-25—49 in 68 GP). He is one of four Flames players averaging at least one point per game in 2018-19 (also Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahanand Elias Lindholm).

* Calgary features four or more players each averaging at least one point per contest through 43 team games in a season (min. 35 GP) for the fifth time in franchise history and first since 1991-92 (Al MacInnis, Theo Fleury, Gary Roberts and Doug Gilmour).

Other highlights from Saturday’s nine-game slate:

* Tuukka Rask made 31 saves to backstop the Bruins to their fourth consecutive win. He earned the 249th regular-season win of his NHL career (all w/ BOS) and moved within three of tying Tiny Thompson (252) for the most by a goaltender in franchise history.

* Seth Jones tallied 18 seconds into overtime to lift the Blue Jackets past the Panthers. Jones scored his seventh career regular-season overtime goal, tied for the most among NHL defensemen since he made his League debut on Oct. 3, 2013 (w/ Oliver Ekman-Larsson).

* P.K. Subban collected two helpers against his former club to reach the 300-assist milestone and help the Predators defeat the Canadiens. Nashville improved to 25-15-3 (53 points) this season and leapfrogged idle Winnipeg (25-13-2, 52 points) for first place in the Central Division standings.

* Jesperi Kotkaniemi collected an assist to reach the 20-point mark (4-16—20 in 42 GP). Kotkaniemi (born July 6, 2000) became the third player in Canadiens franchise history to record 20 or more points before celebrating his 19th birthday, joining Mario Tremblay in 1974-75 (21-18—39 in 63 GP) and Petr Svoboda in 1984-85 (3-18—21 in 49 GP).

* Aaron Ekblad scored the 61st regular-season goal of his NHL career (all w/ FLA) and tied Robert Svehla for the most by a defenseman inPanthers franchise history.

NHL ANNOUNCES COACHES FOR 2019 HONDA NHL ALL-STAR GAME

The NHL announced Jon Cooper of the Lightning (Atlantic), Paul Maurice of the Jets (Central), Todd Reirden of the Capitals (Metropolitan) and Bill Peters of the Flames (Pacific) to serve as the coaches for the 2019 Honda NHL All Star Weekend held Jan. 25-26 in San Jose.

* The selection process is based on the head coach of the team with the highest points percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) in each of the four divisions through the halfway point of the regular season. Cooper’s Lightning (.805, 32-7-2), Maurice’s Jets (.650, 25-13-2), Reirden’s Capitals (.650, 24‑12‑4) and Peters’ Flames (.643, 25-13-4) have secured the highest points percentages in their respective divisions.

PENGUINS LOOK TO EXTEND WIN STREAK TO NINE GAMES

The Penguins (23-12-6, 52 points) look to extend their win streak to nine games when they host the Blackhawks (15-21-7, 37 points) at PPG Paints Arena. Pittsburgh can become the second team to record a win streak of at least nine games this season; it would join Buffalo, which went 10-0-0 from Nov. 8-27.

* The Penguins have posted a win streak of nine or more games on five occasions in franchise history, most recently from March 2-30, 2013 (15-0-0). The franchise record for longest win streak is 17 games, a mark set from March 9 – April 10, 1993.

* Matt Murray has compiled a record of 7-0-0 in his last seven appearances dating to Dec. 15 (1.27 GAA, .962 SV%, 2 SO). He can become the fourth different goaltender in franchise history to record a personal win streak of eight or more games and first since Marc-Andre Fleuryfrom Feb. 21 – March 17, 2012 (9-0-0).

GOLDEN KNIGHTS, FLEURY AIM TO EXTEND POINT STREAKS

The Golden Knights (25-15-4, 54 points) aim to extend their win and point streaks to six and nine games, respectively, when they host the Devils(16-17-7, 39 points) at T-Mobile Arena.

* Marc-Andre Fleury, who paces all goaltenders with 24 wins this season (24-10-4 in 38 GP), is 8-0-3 in his last 11 appearances dating to Dec. 9 (2.34 GAA, .920 SV%, 1 SO), including four consecutive wins. He has recorded a personal point streak of 12 or more games three times in his NHL career, most recently from Feb. 21 – March 25, 2012 (11-0-1).
