2018-19 TRENDS CONTINUE ON MONDAY NIGHT

* Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored the 37th hat trick of 2018-19.

* Sharks captain Joe Pavelski became the seventh player to reach the 20-goal mark this season.

* The Penguins rallied past the Islanders to mark the 87th instance in 2018-19 of a team overcoming a third-period deficit to win a game in any fashion.

STAMKOS SCORES HAT TRICK AS NHL-LEADING LIGHTNING EXTEND WIN STREAK

Steven Stamkos scored three times to eclipse the 700-point milestone (363-338—701 in 696 GP) and help the NHL-leading Lightning (24-7-1, 49 points) extend their win streak to seven games, the League’s longest active run. Tampa Bay scored at least five markers in a game for an NHL-best 13th time in 2018-19 and leads the League with 130 goals for this season (including two shootout-deciding goals).

* Stamkos recorded the ninth regular-season hat trick of his NHL career and first since Oct. 13, 2014 (3-0—3 vs. MTL) to pass Martin St. Louis (8) for the most in franchise history.

* Stamkos scored the 37th hat trick of 2018-19 overall (464 GP). Only one season in the last 20 years has featured more hat tricks through the first 464 games, which was 2010-11 (38).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: STAMKOS ECLIPSES 700 POINTS

Steven Stamkos, who was selected by the Lightning with the first overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, became the third player to record 700 points with the franchise, joining Martin St. Louis (365-588—953) and Vincent Lecavalier (383-491—874).

* Stamkos became the first player from his draft class to reach the 700-point milestone, 163 more than the next-closest player (Erik Karlsson: 128-410—538).

* Stamkos required the fourth-fewest games (tied) among active players to record 700 career points, behind only Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkinand Evgeni Malkin.

* Victor Hedman collected assists on two of Stamkos’ three markers and has now factored on 49 of the captain’s 363 career regular-season goals (13.4%). Only St. Louis (101 of 363; 27.8%) has assisted on a higher percentage of Stamkos’ tallies.

PAVELSKI REACHES 20-GOAL MARK IN WIN

Sharks captain Joe Pavelski (20-7—27 in 32 GP) scored to become the seventh player to reach the 20-goal mark this season and help the Sharksdefeat the Devils. The 2018-19 campaign marked the first season to feature seven or more 20-goal scorers through the first 464 games since 1996-97, when nine players achieved the feat (Jaromir Jagr, Mario Lemieux, Mats Sundin, Tony Amonte, Ziggy Palffy, Geoff Sanderson, Keith Tkachuk, John LeClair and Mark Messier).

* Pavelski reached the 20-goal mark for the sixth consecutive season and 10th time in his NHL career (all w/ SJS), trailing only Patrick Marleau (14) for the most campaigns with at least 20 goals in franchise history. Pavelski (Plover, Wis.) became the 12th U.S.-born player in NHL history to record 10 or more 20-goal seasons.

HOWARD BACKSTOPS RED WINGS PAST KINGS

Jimmy Howard made a season-high 42 saves to backstop the Red Wings past the Kings.

* Howard improved to 10-7-0 in 17 career head-to-head matchups against Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. Howard (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Quick (Milford, Conn.), who were teammates with the United States at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, rank among the top 10 on the NHL’s all-time list for most regular-season wins among U.S.-born goaltenders.

* Dennis Cholowski, who made his NHL debut on Oct. 4, scored his fifth goal of the season (5-8—13 in 29 GP). His five goals this season are tied for the second-most among rookie blueliners, behind only Senators defenseman Maxime Lajoie (6-6—12 in 28 GP).

YEAR OF THE COMEBACK

Derick Brassard tied the game in the third period and Jake Guentzel (0-1—1) scored the decisive marker in the shootout as the Penguins rallied past the Islanders. There have been 87 instances of a team overcoming a third-period deficit to win in 2018-19, the most-ever through the first 464 games of an NHL season.

SNEAK PEEK AT TUESDAY’S ACTION

RANTANEN, OVECHKIN LOOK TO EXTEND POINT STREAKS

Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen (5-14—19 in 11 GP) and Alex Ovechkin (10-6—16 in 11 GP) each look to extend their point streak to 12 games on Tuesday. Rantanen (12-36—48 in 30 GP) and Ovechkin (22-14—36 in 26 GP), who own the longest active point streaks in the NHL, lead the League in points and goals this season, respectively.

* Rantanen aims to become the 15th different player in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to record at least one point in 12 or more consecutive team games and just the second to do so in the last 10 years. He would join teammate Nathan MacKinnon, who accomplished the feat from Jan. 25 – March 6, 2014 (5-13—18 in 13 GP) and Feb. 24 – March 22, 2018 (13-14—27 in 14 GP).

* Rantanen is two shy of becoming the first player to record 50 points this season and can become the fifth different player in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to reach the 50-point mark in the first 31 or fewer team games. He would join Peter Stastny (31 GP in 1981-82, 29 GP in 1982-83, 31 GP in 1983-84, 30 GP in 1987-88), Marian Stastny (27 GP in 1982-83), Michel Goulet (30 GP in 1987-88) and Peter Forsberg (29 GP in 1995-96).

* Ovechkin, meanwhile, is two games shy of equaling the longest point streak of his NHL career, a mark he set from Jan. 1 – Feb. 1, 2007 (8-12—20 in 13 GP). The franchise record for most consecutive team games with at least one point by a Capitals player is 17, a mark set by Mike Gartnerfrom Feb. 26 – April 2, 1981 (17-7—24) and matched from Oct. 13 – Nov. 21, 1984 (12-16—28).

DID YOU KNOW?
Four players have recorded a point streak of at least 12 games this season (Mike Hoffman, Cam Atkinson, Sebastian Aho and Evgenii Dadonov). The last season to conclude with more point streaks of at least 12 games was 2013-14, when there were eight such runs.

BRUINS LOOK TO EXTEND WIN STREAK AGAINST COYOTES

The Bruins host the Coyotes at TD Garden and are 13-0-0 in their last 13 games against Arizona dating to a 3-0 win in Prague, Czech Republic on Oct. 10, 2010 (ARI: 0-12-1). The franchise record for longest regular-season win streak versus one opponent in 17 games, a mark set from Oct. 12, 1992 – Nov. 9, 1995 against the Senators (OTT: 0-17-0).
