NHL MORNING SKATE

POINT SCORES SIXTH-FASTEST THREE GOALS BY A PLAYER IN NHL HISTORY
Brayden Point
netted his first NHL hat trick by scoring three times in a span of 91 seconds over the first and second periods, marking the sixth-fastest three goals by a player in NHL history. Only one player in the League’s expansion era (since 1967-68) scored three goals faster than Point: New York Islanders’ Derek King scored three times in 78 seconds on Oct. 15, 1991 vs. PIT.

* The only player in NHL history to accomplish the feat faster on the road was Bill Mosienko, who scored three times in 21 seconds on March 23, 1952 at NYR - a mark that also stands as the NHL record for any game type.

* Point scored all three goals while Tampa Bay had a man advantage, marking the fastest three power-play goals by one player since 1956-57. That season was the first to allow a player serving a minor penalty to return to the ice when a goal was scored by the opposing team. The only instance of a player scoring three power-play goals faster than Point came prior to that rule change, when Montreal’s Jean Beliveau scored in a span of 44 seconds on Nov. 5, 1955 vs. Boston.

* Point, who leads the Lightning with 12-10—22 this season (19 GP), is tied for third in the League in goals. His natural hat trick was the 11th in franchise history, and the second in which all three goals came via the power-play. Nikita Kucherov, who garnered a secondary assist on each of Point’s three tallies Thursday, first achieved the feat on Feb. 27, 2017 vs. OTT.

BEAUVILLIER HAT TRICK HELPS ISLES CONTINUE DIVISIONAL DOMINANCE
The first NHL hat trick and four-point game by Anthony Beauvillier (3-1—4) helped the Islanders erase a two-goal deficit and remainundefeated against Metropolitan Division opponents this season (7-0-0). Beauvillier scored the 15th regular-season hat trick by an Islandersplayer against the Rangers, and first since John Tavares on Oct. 15, 2011.

* Of the 306 all-time meetings between the Islanders and Rangers (regular-season and playoffs), Thursday’s contest was the 11th to feature at least 12 combined goals. The last such instance was on March 4, 1987, a 7-5 victory by the Rangers.

DID YOU KNOW?

This marks the fourth time in the past 14 seasons that at least 20 hat tricks have been scored through the opening 285 games of a season. The others: 2010-11 (25), 2005-06 (23) and 2017-18 (21).

* Of those 20 three-goal performances, six have been recorded by a player aged 22 or younger: Anthony Beauvillier, David Pastrnak (2),Brayden Point, Patrik Laine and Christian Fischer. Seventeen of the 81 hat tricks scored in 2017-18 were by players aged 22 or younger.

WILD, BLUE JACKETS FILL THE NET IN VICTORIES
In addition to the Islanders, two other clubs scored at least six goals on home ice Thursday: Minnesota and Columbus.

* Mikko Koivu (1-2—3) factored on three straight Wild goals to start the game as Minnesota scored six goals for the first time this season to improve to 6-1-2 at Xcel Energy Center in 2018-19. The Wild, Islanders (5-1-2) and Devils (6-1-1) are the only teams with only one regulation loss at home this season.

* Minnesota will play its 20th game of 2018-19 Saturday vs. Buffalo. The Wild (12-5-2, 26 points) aim to win 13 of 20 games to begin a season for the first time in franchise history, while sitting two points shy of matching the club mark for points through 20 games (12-4-4, 28 points in 2013-14).

* Seven different players scored as the Blue Jackets erased a 2-0 deficit before scoring four unanswered goals in the third period to post their second seven-goal outing this season. They joined the Maple Leafs and Islanders as the only clubs to record multiple showings with at least seven goals in 2018-19.

* The multi-goal comeback win by Columbus was one of three on the night (also TBL and NYI) and the 41st so far this season (285 GP), 14 more than at the same point in 2017-18.

BATHERSON NETS WINNER IN NHL DEBUT, SENS STOP TWO PENALTY SHOTS
In a game that featured two penalty shot attempts by Detroit, it was Drake Batherson’s first NHL goal that stood as the game winner as Ottawa earned its second win in three contests.

* Batherson became the sixth player in Senators history to score in his NHL debut, and second to do so this season following Maxime Lajoie on Oct. 4 vs. CHI. Two of the previous four instances occurred in the same game: Andreas Dackell and Wade Redden both did so on Oct. 5, 1996. The others: Pavol Demitra (Oct. 9, 1993) and Steve Larouche (Feb. 28, 1995).

* The Senators became the seventh team in NHL history to surrender two penalty shots in the same game without allowing a goal on either, with Craig Anderson (34 saves) making both stops for Ottawa. The last such instance came on Oct. 8, 2015 when Tampa Bay’s Ben Bishopdenied Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux and Scott Laughton en route to victory in what turned out to be the League’s first-ever three-on-three overtime game.

HOFFMAN ESTABLISHES FRANCHISE RECORD; DOMI, TAVARES EXTEND STREAKS
Mike Hoffman
(0-1—1) established a franchise record by extending his point streak to 14 games, besting the previous mark of 13 set by Pavel Bure in 1999-00. Hoffman’s is the longest such run in the NHL this season and marks the third straight campaign to feature at least one player with a point in 14 consecutive team games. Three players achieved the feat in 2017-18: New Jersey’s Taylor Hall (19 GP), Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine (15 GP) and Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon (14 GP).

* Max Domi notched an assist on the tying goal to spark a Canadiens comeback win and extend his point streak to eight games (5-7—12). His is the longest point streak by a Canadiens player in his first season with the team since Martin Rucinsky in 1995-96 (7-6—13 in 8 GP). The last longer such run came one season prior to Rucinsky, when Pierre Turgeon had a point in 13 consecutive games during his first campaign with Montreal.

* John Tavares scored the opening goal to become the fourth player since 1993-94 to record a point streak of at least seven games (5-5–10) in his first season with the Maple Leafs. The others to achieve the feat in that span: Eric Lindros in 2005-06 (7-1—8 in 7 GP), Phil Kessel in 2009-10 (1-7—8 in 7 GP) and Auston Matthews, who had two runs of at least eight games in his first NHL season of 2016-17.
