OSHIE NETS LATE WINNER AFTER CROSBY, OVECHKIN TRADE GOALS
After Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin traded goals in the first 40 minutes, Washington’s T.J. Oshie registered the go-ahead goal with 1:14 remaining in regulation to lift the Capitals to victory and to a 2-0-1 record on their current five-game homestand.

* Oshie also played a pivotal role for Washington in their first meeting with Pittsburgh in 2018-19, collecting 2-1—3 including two goals in a span of 21 seconds in the third period to erase a two-goal deficit and help the Capitals salvage a point. His three winning goals are tied for the second-most in the League this season and equal his 74-game total from 2017-18.

* Wednesday marked the ninth time in 47 regular-season matchups that Ovechkin and Crosby each found the back of the net in the same game, with Washington improving to 4-4-1 in those nine contests (PIT: 5-3-1). Ovechkin’s equalizer was his 30th goal (30-20—50) in a regular-season game against Crosby (21-45—66).

* Ovechkin netted his 12th goal of the season - and 619th of his career - to tie Boston’s David Pastrnak for the League lead. The seven-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner moved past Marcel Dionne into eighth place on the NHL’s all-time power-play goals list.

SISSONS HAT TRICK PROPELS PREDATORS IN ANOTHER ROAD WIN
Colton Sissons netted his second career regular-season hat trick to help the League-leading Predators (12-3-0, 24 points) improve to 7-0-0 on the road in 2018-19.

* Only two teams in NHL history have posted longer road win streaks to start a season. Nashville plays its next road game Saturday in Dallas, the same night Toronto visits Boston in pursuit of a 7-0-0 road record to start 2018-19.

* Sissons recorded his other regular-season hat trick on Jan. 5, 2017, and also scored three times in Game 6 of the 2017 Western Conference Final to propel Nashville into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time. Sissons has posted 10-7—17 in 16 career contests vs. the Avalanche, including a 3-4—7 clip during the First Round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

* Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day to feature a hat trick and the fifth in the month of November. The longest string of consecutive days with at least one hat trick is nine, which spanned from Oct. 11-19, 1988.

FLAMES NEARLY MATCH NHL MARK, BUT FALL AT HANDS OF GETZLAF, DUCKS
Flames forward Mark Jankowski tied the game in third period, but Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf responded 27 seconds later to lead his team to victory and halt Calgary’s win streak at four games.

* The Flames have trailed in the third period in each of their past four outings, entering Wednesday with wins in the previous three. Only three teams in NHL history have won four consecutive games after trailing in the third period in each contest: the Penguins (Nov. 8-15, 2008), Hurricanes (Oct. 26-Nov. 3, 2005) and Stars (Jan. 25-30, 2006).

* Getzlaf, who is averaging one point per game this season (3-8—11), now sits 14 points shy of becoming the second player to record at least 900 points with the Ducks franchise (250-636—886 in 928 GP). Teemu Selanne (457-531—988 in 966 GP) is the only player to reach that milestone with Anaheim.

THORNTON ENTERS 1,500TH GAME WITHIN REACH OF OTHER MILESTONES
Sharks forward Joe Thornton (1,499 GP) is set to surpass Mike Modano (1,499 GP) and become the 19th player in League history to skate in at least 1,500 regular-season NHL games.

* Thornton also ranks 19th all-time with 1,659 total games played (including playoffs), five shy of tying Johnny Bucyk (1,664 GP) for 18th place.

* The top pick in 1997, Thornton can become the first No. 1 overall pick in the 55-year history of the NHL Draft to reach the 1,500-game milestone. He also will join former teammate Patrick Marleau (1,590 GP), the No. 2 pick that year, as the only active NHL players to reach the benchmark.

* The 39-year-old sits one shy of 400 NHL goals (399-1,031—1,430) and two assists back of tying Mario Lemieux (1,033) for 11th place on the NHL’s all-time assists list. Thornton would become the 11th player in NHL history to collect at least 400 career goals and 1,000 career assists. Every player who has achieved the feat has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (aside from Jaromir Jagr, who is not yet eligible).

YOUTHFUL SCORERS TAKE CENTER STAGE IN BOSTON

The Canucks take their four-game point streak (3-0-1) into TD Garden Thursday when two of the League’s top young scorers meet for the first time.

* Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson, 19, paces the 2018-19 rookie class in scoring, with 10-6—16 in just 10 career games. Fresh off becoming the fifth player since 1918-19 to score 10 or more goals through his first 10 career games, Pettersson now aims to become the fourth player since 1920-21 to score 11 or more goals through his first 11 career games (DonMurdoch, Rob Gaudreau and Teemu Selanne). He has at least one point in each of his first five career road games; Ivan Hlinka is the only other Canucks player to record a point in each of his first five road games (0-5—5 in 5 GP) - his streak did not extend to six contests.

* Boston’s David Pastrnak, 22, shares the NHL lead with 12 goals this season and ranks second on the Bruins with 17 points in 14 games. He has registered at least 30 goals in each of the past two seasons, including a team-high and career-best 35 tallies in 2017-18. Additionally, his seven goals on home ice in 2018-19 share second in the NHL behind New Jersey’s Kyle Palmieri (8).

BARZAL IN PURSUIT OF 100TH CAREER POINT, ELITE COMPANY

Entering his 99th career game, Islanders sophomore Mathew Barzal (23-74—97) sets his sights on the 100th point of his NHL career when his club visits Tampa.

* The 2017-18 Calder Memorial Trophy recipient can become the 11th player in the past 25 seasons and sixth active NHL player to average at least a point per game through his first 100 career contests. The only players to achieve the feat when starting their career with the Islanders are Mike Bossy (79 GP) and Bryan Trottier (93 GP).

* The only active NHL players to record 100 points before their 100th career game are Alex Ovechkin (77 GP), Sidney Crosby (80 GP), Evgeni Malkin (89 GP), Paul Stastny (99 GP) and Connor McDavid (92 GP).

* Wayne Gretzky set the modern era record (since 1943-44) by recording his 100th NHL point in just his 61st career game.
